Railserve is hiring a dependable and safety-focused Assistant Site Leader in Decatur to support daily rail switching and industrial site operations within an active rail environment.
This is a full-time operational leadership role responsible for assisting the Site Leader with employee supervision, safety compliance, workforce coordination, customer service, and day-to-day operational execution.

Job Description
The Assistant Site Leader is responsible for working alongside the Site Leader to coordinate and support employees engaged in rail switching, railcar movement, transloading, track maintenance, railcar repair, in-plant trucking, and other industrial rail services. This role plays a key part in maintaining safe operations, supporting workforce development, and ensuring customer expectations are consistently met.
This position provides hands-on operational leadership in a fast-paced industrial environment and supports scheduling, employee training, reporting, operational coordination, and safety compliance activities. The Assistant Site Leader also helps oversee day-to-day operations while serving as a leadership resource for crews working throughout the site.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, organized, and comfortable leading teams in active industrial environments. Previous rail operations and leadership experience are preferred.

Schedule
• Schedule based on operational and customer needs
• Nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call responsibilities may be required
Compensation
$75,000.00 - $80,000.00 annually based on experience
Duties
• Assist the Site Leader with daily rail switching and site operations
• Maintain and promote a safe working environment
• Ensure compliance with company EH&S policies and safety procedures
• Train employees on operational procedures and safety practices
• Help supervise crews engaged in rail switching and industrial operations
• Maintain positive customer relationships and service standards
• Support operational scheduling and workforce planning
• Assist with payroll, fuel cost management, locomotive cost tracking, and operational expenses
• Help maintain purchase order systems and operational documentation
• Coordinate preventative maintenance activities with mechanical teams
• Assist with timekeeping, evaluations, operational reports, and investigations
• Support hiring, onboarding, coaching, and employee development efforts
• Assist with addressing operational issues and employee concerns
• Support additional operational and leadership duties as assigned
Job Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required
• 1+ years of rail operations experience preferred
• 1+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Strong teamwork and organizational abilities
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Must be willing and available to be on call to cover shifts as needed
• Reliable transportation required
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to walk on uneven terrain and within active industrial environments
• Ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy equipment and materials
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
• Military experience is a plus
