We are currently looking to fill the position of Pipeline Inspector based at our Hebron, OH Service Center. This is a non-exempt, intermediate skilled position within the bargaining unit responsible for the construction and maintenance area of the system. An Employee in this position will at many times work independently in a given leak area. Work is performed under the general direction of the line inspector or supervisor and is checked by observation and conformance to standard practices.

Nature and Scope of Position (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Perform patrolling and leak inspections of main lines and service lines. Perform non-critical valve inspections and assist in critical value inspections.
  • Perform locates for service lines and/or main lines.
  • Operate the following equipment: combustible gas indicator, flame ionization unit, line locating instrument, service/valve box locators and other equipment necessary to perform the job duties of this position.
  • Assist in the clearance of pipeline right-of-ways to maintain access and provide for efficient patrolling.
  • Perform leak repairs on main lines and service lines, etc. when necessary.
  • Maintain and upkeep the operation of tools, instruments and equipment used in order to perform job functions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Become familiar with and complete all forms pertaining to maintenance of equipment and facilities such as leak orders, material tickets, maintenance records, etc.
  • Perform related work as required and other such duties as may be assigned provided the work and duties coincide with employee's qualifications.

Qualifications: To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent GED supplemented by three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certifications, Licenses and/or Training: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver's License and have a good driving record.
  • Language Skills: Ability to deal with the general public in a pleasant and courteous manner at all times. Ability to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with minimal supervision. Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance of the related natural gas system. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to this type of work. Successfully able to operate line locators, combustible gas instruments, and other tools and equipment used in the construction and repair of the natural gas system. Adapt to performing under stress, when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations; or in situations in which working speed or sustained attention are critical aspects of the job.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an Employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

  • While performing the essential functions of this job, an Employee would regularly walk, stand, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, stoop, use hand tools, operate other tools and power equipment and drive a Company truck. Successful performance requires sufficient strength to lift heavy objects, the ability to walk for several continuous hours which may include climbing hills and walking on uneven terrain and the ability to successfully work in adverse weather conditions.
  • May require announced or unannounced overtime work and the ability to respond to call-out work during non-working hours or emergencies. Participates, when requested, in the district's on-call schedule.
  • An Employee in this position must successfully complete pre-employment drug and physical testing and is subject to random testing as outlined in the Company's Drug and Alcohol policy.
