Construction Field Inspector - Water/Sewer Pipelines (Athens, GA)

Stantec is positioned to provide engineering and/or construction support services including Construction Administration, Construction Quality Management, Owner's Engineer, and on-site project representatives for multiple clients in the power industry (coal-fired, hydroelectric, and solar), dams and levees, and municipal utilities. Projects will vary and may consist of landfill construction or closures, modifications or construction of new dams or levees, ground improvements, municipal pipelines, pump stations, water treatment plants, etc.
Your Opportunity:
Stantec's Construction Support Services (CSS) Program is growing, and we are seeking a full-time Construction Pipeline Inspector with our Water Business Line for water pipeline projects. You will be responsible for monitoring construction activities and verifying that construction is performed per the design and in accordance with the contract documents. The Construction Inspector will work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and other professionals providing office support to the project team.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Stantec's on-site site safety representative, with ability to maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others by participating in daily safety briefings, observations, and walkdowns prior to executing the work or when conditions change.
  • Serve as the liaison between the engineer and the contractor.
  • Interact routinely, effectively, and professionally with Client and contractor representatives and the Stantec office team.
  • Oversee and/or perform required testing (will vary by project type) and maintain required documentation in accordance with the project documents.
  • Operate computerized and digital testing and monitoring equipment.
  • Track construction progress, observed issues and resolutions, field discussions, etc.
  • Review and respond to daily construction issues, working with the design team, Client, and contractor(s) as appropriate to determine a resolution.
  • Monitor adherence to contract and design documents.
  • Communicate and report discrepancies and deviations from requirements to the design team and Client.
  • Conduct construction quality oversight of installed materials and equipment.
  • Maintain detailed documentation (daily reports, test results, RFIs, submittals, non-conformance reports, etc.) for inclusion in progress reports and record drawings.
  • Attend daily/weekly/monthly project field meetings.
  • This position will require primarily fieldwork and requires the ability to work daily in Athens, GA.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) protection, including client-specific training (as required).
  • Ability to use detailed plans for construction, technical specifications, quality management plans, and other project documents.
  • Construction observation and inspection experience.
  • Familiarity with materials testing requirements and construction tolerances.
  • Experience with field construction activities and construction quality management is required; experience with construction materials laboratory testing is a plus.
  • Proficient with desktop office software applications (word processor, spreadsheets, email, PDF viewers, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of codes and design requirements is a plus.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work weekends as required.

Previous construction experience in one or more of the following areas:
  1. Working on or around roads, streams, residential and commercial areas
  2. Heavy earthwork and associated conformance testing
  3. Cast-in-place and pre-cast concrete structures
  4. Fusion welded HDPE pipe, ductile iron pipe, PVC pipe
  5. Pump stations and force mains
  6. Asphalt and concrete pavement
  7. Below grade utility piping (water, storm sewer, sanitary, etc.)

Education and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with field construction activities and construction quality management.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required, secondary education in related field is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
  • A pre-employment drug screen may also be required.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for most of the day. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
