Overview

Performs work involving supervision of the phlebotomy section of the laboratory.  Ensures patient care and specimen processing are provided in a way that meets customer needs in an efficient and professional manner.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

  • Specimen Protocol: Establishes, maintains, and monitors mechanisms which ensures timely and accurate processing of inpatient and outpatient requests.  Prepares and adjusts work schedules and assignments as needed.
  • Employee Training: Participates actively in the selection and training of employees.  Develops systems to evaluate employee performance on a regular basis.  Provides coaching, guidance, and counseling as needed.
  • Policies and Procedures: Writes, reviews, and updates departmental Policies and Procedures.  Assures compliance with the approved Policies and Procedures.
  • Safety and Performance Improvement: Identifies, develops, and analyzes performance improvement indicators for the department.  Promotes a safe work environment. 
  • Financial Management: Reviews the Monthly Financial Reports.  Assures that Variances are properly explained.  Meets the Productivity targets.
  • Customer Relations: Interacts with internal and external customers in a professional manner to address concerns and takes steps to resolve these.  Interacts with outreach clients to ensure that client's expectations are met in a professional way.  Actively participates in evaluating and improving Patient Satisfaction Scores.
  • Actively participates in the successful development and management of the Outreach (MethCare) program.
  • Develops systems to manage inventory.  Takes necessary steps to reduce waste and optimize resource utilization.
Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough understanding of regulations governing laboratory services.
  • Basic understanding of financial and statistical tools.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide compassionate patient care orientation.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and driven
  • PBT(ASCP) and/or MT/MLT (ASCP) is required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATION

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required
  • PBT(ASCP) or CLPIB (NCA) or MLT/MT(ASCP) or Equivalent Required
  • 5 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical Laboratory setting Required
