Job description

Pay: $60,000 - $65,000 annually, based on experience.

The Role - Safety Specialist (Onsite Position-Springfield, MO)

CSI is looking for a qualified Safety Specialist to support and strengthen our safety culture across CSI facilities. This position is responsible for implementing safety procedures, training programs, documentation, audits, and other tools that promote a safe and healthy workplace. The Safety Specialist works closely with the Corporate Safety Director, CSI leadership, employees, contractors, shop production, and warehouse teams to drive safety awareness, compliance, and continuous improvement.

The Safety Specialist has the authority to stop work due to safety violations or concerns and is expected to proactively identify hazards, address safety concerns, and help ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and CSI Safety SOPs.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work closely with the Corporate Safety Director to cultivate and continuously improve CSI’s safety culture.
  • Conduct safety audits and hazard assessments across CSI facilities, including shop production and warehouse areas.
  • Support the execution and training of CSI Emergency Response and Evacuation Plans and other employee safety training programs.
  • Assist with CSI Safety Manual revisions, safety documentation, inspection checklists, and shared interactive safety forms.
  • Advise, train, and mentor CSI leadership and employees regarding their safety responsibilities, expectations, and compliance.
  • Monitor and support key safety programs, including fall protection, confined space, respiratory protection, forklifts and lifts, lock-out/tag-out, SDS, Job Task Analysis, and Weekly Toolbox safety.
  • Maintain knowledge of OSHA documentation, reporting requirements, Bureau of Labor Statistics information relevant to the metals fabrication industry, and employee injury, incident, and near-miss reporting.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Shop Supervisors to resolve safety problems, coordinate activities, and review upcoming risks.
  • Interact regularly with CSI employees and contractors in Shop Production and Warehouse areas to provide safety oversight and reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Escalate lack of Safety Program engagement or support to the Corporate Safety Director and hold others accountable to CSI’s safety expectations.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with safety protocols in a manufacturing environment.
  • Field construction experience in food and/or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Ability to become an authorized OSHA 10/30 Hour Trainer.
  • Extensive computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

The standard workday is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; more than 40 hours per week will normally be required to achieve the productivity necessary for this position. Overnight travel, weekend, and holiday hours may be required, and travel by plane or vehicle may be necessary.

When working in an office environment, the position requires verbal and written interaction with employees, approximately 80% stationary work, close visual acuity, and frequent operation of computers and office productivity equipment. Occasional lifting, stooping, bending, and lifting office products and supplies up to 20 pounds may be required.

When working on a jobsite, the position requires frequent bending, kneeling, and stooping and may require lifting or moving items up to 75 pounds with assistance. The employee may be exposed to environmental factors typical of welding and installation environments, may work with power tools, and must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses, and safety-toed shoes.
