Job Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer Specialist will support the development, execution, and improvement of manufacturing processes for military laser rangefinder systems and associated electro-optical subsystems. This role focuses on production support, process planning, and troubleshooting within a high-reliability defense manufacturing environment. The Specialist Manufacturing Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure laser rangefinder products are built efficiently, meet performance requirements, and comply with stringent aerospace and defense quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manufacturing Process Support
โ€ข Develop and maintain manufacturing processes for laser rangefinder assemblies, including mechanical, electronic, and optical integration.
โ€ข Create and update work instructions, routers, and assembly documentation to support repeatable production.
โ€ข Support production technicians in assembly, alignment, and system-level integration activities.
Production Troubleshooting
โ€ข Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to resolve build issues, test failures, and process deviations.
โ€ข Support nonconformance investigations and corrective actions in partnership with Quality and Engineering.
โ€ข Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of containment and long-term fixes.
Tooling & Equipment
โ€ข Support development and procurement of assembly fixtures, alignment aids, and test support equipment.
โ€ข Partner with test engineering to ensure manufacturing readiness for acceptance testing and qualification activities.
Continuous Improvement
โ€ข Participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives focused on yield improvement, cycle time reduction, and process optimization.
โ€ข Collect and analyze production metrics to support process enhancements.
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements.
  • Experience supporting electromechanical manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and build documentation.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving skills in a production environment.
  • Able to work additional hours evenings and / or weekends to meet customer demands.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 30lbs.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering within aerospace, defense, medical devices, or other high-reliability industries.
  • 3+ years of experience with laser / optical systems.
