Job description

Please note that this position is Permanent and is Onsite.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience with Fused Silica, NBK7, Zerodur, IR materials, or similar glasses, and the ability to interpret optical drawings to understand the processes required to meet tolerances and take ownership of those processes.

  • Experience with CNC machining, milling, grinding, sawing, polishing, optical contacting, beveling, edging, optical cleaning, acid etching, interferometry, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Physics, Optics, etc.)
  • 10+ years of optical component fabrication experience desirable.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD software desirable.
  • Proficiency with SPC desirable.
  • Experience with optical alignment and bonding desirable.

Main Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for optical component fabrication processes.
  • Create and improve documentation for the manufacturing of optical components.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support and train technicians on fabrication process execution.
  • Monitor and drive improvement of production fabrication processes and equipment using SPC.
  • Support troubleshooting of existing fabrication processes.
  • Review, disposition, and reduce non-conforming material.
  • Assist in the transfer of optical fabrication process technologies from R&D to production.
  • Identify, justify, and qualify new equipment into production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
