Job description

The Operations Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all site production activities, ensuring that
daily operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with contractual and company objectives. The Superintendent leads the
site's foremen and field teams, driving communication, consistency, and accountability across all production areas.
This position serves as the link between the Project Manager and field execution, ensuring that operational plans are translated into
measurable results. The Operations Superintendent embodies Turner Mining Group's values-an Eye for Safety, an Attitude for Excellence,
a Mind for Innovation, and a Heart for People-while maintaining strong relationships with the client, equipment, and maintenance teams.
Position Responsibilities:
Project Management
• Oversee daily field execution, ensuring all operations align with scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
• Approve and verify timecards, field work orders (FWOs), and quantities each shift.
• Review and submit field work orders for client approval daily for the previous day's work.
• Maintain accurate records of production quantities, equipment hours, and labor utilization.
• Review daily project diary and foreman reports to identify issues and performance trends.
• Coordinate with the Project Manager on client communications, scope changes, and pay applications.
• Execute the survey plan and verify conformance to design grades and production limits.
• Monitor production metrics (loads, tonnage, cycle times, and equipment utilization) and adjust field assignments to meet targets.
• Ensure site conditions promote safety, efficiency, and equipment longevity.
• Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with the client's onsite representatives.
• Accompany all client visitors or inspectors and ensure compliance with site protocols.
• Communicate equipment needs and availability to the Maintenance Superintendent.
• Review and approve requisitions and purchases within assigned authority limits.
Safety Leadership
• Lead site safety culture by modeling safe behavior and accountability at all times.
• Ensure all MSHA regulations, Turner safety standards, and site-specific rules are enforced.
• Conduct and participate in pre-shift and monthly safety meetings focused on trends, behaviors, and goals.
• Verify completion and accuracy of workplace exams, task training, and pre-operation inspections.
• Ensure task training is completed properly, documented, and stored according to Turner process.
• Respond to and report all incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Lead or participate in incident investigations, including 5-Why and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) documentation.
• Submit incident reports through HCSS Safety and coordinate follow-up actions with the Project Manager and Safety team.
• Ensure corrective actions are completed and documented.
Operational Leadership
• Lead and coordinate production through daily engagement with foremen and operators.
• Establish clear daily goals and performance expectations for all crews.
• Verify proper execution of loading, hauling, dumping, and material handling plans.
• Ensure haul roads, dumps, and working areas are maintained for safe and efficient operation.
• Collaborate with Maintenance Superintendent to minimize downtime and optimize fleet availability.
• Analyze production and performance data to identify bottlenecks or improvement opportunities.
• Provide field-based coaching and support to improve crew efficiency and quality of work.
• Monitor weather and site conditions; plan contingencies for adverse conditions.
• Ensure environmental and operational compliance with client and regulatory standards.
Personnel Management
• Directly supervise site foremen, providing coaching, mentorship, and accountability.
• Evaluate foremen and leadmen performance, providing structured feedback and development opportunities.
• Conduct interviews for site positions and make hiring recommendations to the Project Manager.
• Manage onboarding, training, and performance evaluations using Turner forms and processes.
• Ensure consistent application of company policies and employee handbook requirements.
• Address disciplinary issues promptly and in coordination with HR and the Project Manager.
• Support employee retention by maintaining strong communication and team engagement.
General Leadership and Coordination
• Serve as acting site lead in the absence of the Project Manager.
• Coordinate daily activities with Maintenance, Safety, and Technical Services teams to ensure unified site execution.
• Support planning, mobilization, and demobilization activities.
• Lead operational readiness and shutdown/startup processes as required by project schedule.
• Promote collaboration and communication between field and office personnel.
• Support corporate initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across operations.
• 8-12 years of mining or heavy civil construction experience, including at least 3 years in a Superintendent or equivalent leadership
role.
• Strong understanding of open-pit production operations, material handling, and fleet management.
• Proven ability to manage multiple crews and priorities in a dynamic field environment.
• Working knowledge of production planning, cost tracking, and project reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project management and field reporting systems (e.g., HCSS HeavyJob,
HCSS Safety, Trimble).
• Knowledge of MSHA regulations, workplace exam requirements, and incident investigation procedures.
• Understanding of equipment capabilities, maintenance coordination, and preventive practices.
