Job description

Operations Supervisor

The Operations Supervisor will manage the day-to-day communication of and adherence to Company safety and environmental policies and practices and will plan and supervise the safe and efficient operations and maintenance of the hydro-power dams, equipment, and facilities in his or her area of responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily supervision and direction of a USW represented work force in the execution operation, maintenance and construction activities on the hydroelectric plants to which they are assigned;
  • Personnel safety at Brookfield is driven by front line management. Accordingly, the Operations Supervisor will lead by example in ensuring that all reporting personnel adhere to Brookfield safety policies and procedures at all times;
  • Ensure that all personnel and contractors under his/her responsibility practice sound, approved environmental principles and follow all Brookfield environmental policies and procedures;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of conduct;
  • Review and develop operations and maintenance procedures, monitor the workmanship and performance of operations and maintenance employees and contractors and inspect related projects in an effort to improve operations, increase uptime and strengthen the safety of the operation;
  • Assist with budget analysis, bid process and ordering process for contracted labor, consultants, parts and equipment for various projects;
  • Collaborate with employees, contractors, engineers, and consultants when designing, constructing, and implementing projects to incorporate safety and environmental concepts;
  • Travel as necessary to effectively manage facilities and assigned projects and for safety, leadership development, or to support the overall goals of the company. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for 4 assets, spanning North Carolina and Tennessee.
  • Be available for calls in off hours relating to operational, maintenance, safety;
  • Perform duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Manager;
  • Work with Systems Operations and Water Resource Managers to manage the assets collectively and effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical discipline or Equivalent work related experience and leadership will be considered in lieu of formal education (5+ to 7 Years of Experience)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Supervisory and leadership experience, preferably including supervision of trades personnel and contractors
  • Experience reading (and working from) drawings, blueprints, specifications, schematics;

Requirements:

  • A working knowledge of hydropower turbine/generator systems, related equipment, standards, codes, and regulations;
  • Working knowledge of power distribution including high and low voltage systems up to 161 KV;
  • Basic working knowledge of hydro power generation controls
  • Maintain a valid drivers license
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, good aptitude and problem solving skills, and ability to work well with people

Budget: $105K - $120K

Target Bonus: 15%
