Job Description:

Position Summary

The Custodial Operations Weekend Supervisor is integral to maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall aesthetics of Hamilton College facilities, while strictly adhering to established safety protocols. This role includes leading and developing an efficient cleaning program consistent with available resources. The supervisor oversees custodial staff and guides task planning, prioritization, and the implementation of best practices to sustain high cleaning standards. In collaboration with the Custodial Operations Manager, the Supervisor coordinates the daily service delivery to address the needs of the college community effectively. All employees are expected to conduct themselves professionally and comply with the Core Values of the College and Facilities Management. Each employee is expected to uphold the shared values of respect and decency towards one another, as articulated in the college's Strategic Plan.

Review of candidates will begin September 8, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and instruct Custodians on proper departmental cleaning procedures, cleanliness standards, specialty floor and upholstery restoration, safety procedures, chemical dilution, departmental equipment operation, repair, and care.

  • Oversee and perform disinfection and other mitigation strategies to ensure environmental safety against infectious diseases and health emergencies.

  • Oversee and organize departmental weekend operations, including overtime personnel for routine cleaning, event support, and project work.

  • Enters hours worked in the Time Management System accurately to routine or event work orders for tracking purposes.

  • Promotes processes and procedures developed by the department and performs cleaning duties when required.

  • Collaborates on developing and improving departmental procedures with the other Supervisors and the Manager of Custodial Operations.

  • Delivers supplies when needed.

  • Responsible for all universal waste storage and collection for Custodial Operations.

  • Oversees all laundering functions of Custodial Operations, including mops, microfiber cloths, and linen.

  • Responsible for the once-per-week service at the Hamilton College Boat House.

  • Will be the designated Lead Trainer for all new employees and be expected to adjust their work schedule accordingly.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in environmental services, facilities management, or a related discipline plus three to five years of experience managing a large team.

  • Experience in an educational facility setting preferred.

  • Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.

  • The APPA certification, along with other relevant certifications in facilities management, will be considered.

  • An equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered.

  • New York State Drivers License preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of custodial service policy, procedures, standards, methods, safety, and OSHA regulations.

  • Demonstrated management skills, ability to multitask, establish priorities and deadlines, and manage to meet established deadlines. Ability to problem solve, analyze, and change priorities when needed.

  • Ability to give front-line performance-based feedback to custodians professionally with a focus on identifying specifics on what aspects of performance require improvement, what areas of performance are being achieved to standards or above, and provide continuous developmental feedback to improve overall performance of the stewards.

  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with internal Facilities Management shops/departments and other campus organizations.

  • Ability to develop, maintain, and promote cooperative, professional, and respectful working relationships with all department employees, vendors, and business partners.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the job and a positive, supportive customer service approach.

  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft products (Excel and Word) and Google (Docs and Sheets).

  • Ability to work outside the standard operating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation Range:

$63,500 per year
