Job description

Imaging Procedure Assistant

The purpose of this position is to augment both technical and nursing staff in and around imaging procedures. These duties will be under direct oversight by technical and nursing personnel. The responsibility is to assist with patient care as it relates to procedure room turn around and department workflow. Duties include: Transporting patients to and from the Emergency Department and Imaging department(s), safely getting patients on and off imaging equipment, start and discontinue I.V.s (used during imaging procedures), maintain Imaging room stock, and other support duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(30%)* Stage patients for imaging procedures: Greet patients, if necessary have patient change into hospital gown, complete pre-procedure clinical documentation or screening, start IV when necessary. Pre-load contrast injectors- CT specific.

(35%)* Transport patients to imaging procedure room and position on table, assist with patient during procedure as necessary.

(35%)* On completion of procedure, move patient to staging area, discontinue I.V., and document any necessary clinical information in Radiology Information System. Assist in preparing imaging procedure room for next case by cleaning and changing linen.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Transport any patient type (ED,OP,IP) to and from imaging department(s), based on dept needs, Aides shall not be restricted to any one specific dept.

Return mobile equipment to proper storage location, Hoyer lift, overbed table, etc..

Initiate CD production for patient transfer.

Answer incoming phone calls.

Carry an Ascom phone for effective communication.

Maintain safe and effective patient transfer techniques, bed to table, wheelchair to table, etc..

Complete Net Learning Compliance modules.

Check for expired items in stock room.

Certifications and Licensures

Required: BLS: Basic Life Support Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer

Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Equivalent Experience: I.V. set up skills preferred. Three to four years experience in a clinical setting is preferred. College medical terminology course preferred.

Other Information

Experience, Training and Skills:

One to two years of experience in a clinical setting is required.

Excellent communication skills, ability to work under pressure and time management skills required.

Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually.

Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
