Job description

Our Story:

Crude oil is an essential element of our nation’s energy supply - fueling our cars, trucks, airplanes, and factories, and heating and cooling our homes. As part of the energy mix, the United States relies on a steady supply of crude oil to produce products we use on a daily basis. LOOP plays a key role in meeting those daily energy needs as the single largest point of entry for waterborne crude oil coming into the U.S.

LOOP is a joint venture of Marathon Petroleum Company, Shell Oil Company, and Valero, and is the only Deepwater Port in the U.S. capable of offloading and loading a wide range of vessels from Ultra Large Crude Carriers down to Medium Range Tankers.

LOOP stores crude oil in eight underground caverns in a naturally occurring salt dome capable of storing approximately 60 million barrels. In addition, LOOP has a modern above-ground tank facility consisting of twenty-two tanks with a total storage capacity of 12 million barrels.

LOOP has called Louisiana home for over forty years. With headquarters in Covington and operating facilities in Galliano and St. James LA, as well as a facility 20 miles in the Gulf of Mexico.

Summary Description

Monitors and operates pipelines, storage tanks and associated equipment to ensure systems integrity for proper oil movement. This is an entry-level position, which the individual will work closely with an experienced operator training on all day-to day task. This individual will have to complete training per the On the Job training program on a set timeline. Individual will be responsible for completing training, working with daily operations, perform daily job duties, and reflect the knowledge retention.

The successful candidate will be required to work at LOCAP and may be required to work or relocate to other facilities including Galliano LA, Covington, LA or Marine Terminal facility (offshore). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in continuous monitoring, operating, inspecting, and testing of all equipment, pipelines, storage tanks, and measurement systems.
  • Actively participate in observation/intervention/SWA program.
  • Be familiar with equipment designated as Safety Related Alarm (SRA) assets and comply with all maintenance policies and procedures when working on SRA assets.
  • Upon completion of On the Job Training, assist and perform Measurement Lab Analysis on composite sample for batch delivery system.
  • Assist in PM execution.
  • Assist in tag and lockout of various equipment and piping.
  • Assist in performance of maintenance on equipment and instruments as needed to maximize equipment availability.
  • Record equipment repairs, history, and replacements in the LOOP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist routine maintenance to equipment and processes.
  • May relieve Operations Technicians as needed.
  • Assist emergency repairs to limit and/or minimize interruptions to LOOP and its customers.

    Education:  Associates of Arts (A.A.) degree or technical certificate in related field preferred. 

    Experience: Minimum three (3) years prior experience in and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

    Licensure/Certification: OQ Task for LOCAP Utility Technician.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None

    Essential Physical Requirements:

    This position routinely requires twelve hour (12) days/nights on a 7/7 schedule.

    Employee must meet the physical standards expressed in the LOOP Occupational Health Assessment to be physically qualified to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position.  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

    Ability to pass Fit Test for Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and 5 Minute Escape Pack.
