Our cattle are raised on the rolling tallgrass prairie north of Manhattan, Kansas at Booth Creek Wagyu Ranch, where careful attention to genetics, nutrition, and animal care sets the foundation for exceptional beef. They are finished through our Wagyu Feeders operation, where a focus on animal health, ethical care, and consistent nutrition helps develop the marbling and flavor Wagyu is known for. Processing takes place at Meatworks of Kansas, our USDA-inspected harvest and fabrication facility, allowing us to oversee harvest, aging, and cutting while maintaining strict quality standards and full transparency. Through a combination of e-commerce and retail sales, Booth Creek Wagyu delivers premium beef directly to customers who value craftsmanship, consistency, and knowing exactly where their food comes from.

Job Description

The Ranch Hand is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of Booth Creek Wagyu Ranch. This hands-on role works closely with the Ranch Manager to help ensure the health and well-being of cattle, maintain ranch facilities and equipment, and contribute to the success of our cattle program. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in hard work, and values animal care, safety, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Cattle Care

• Assist with daily feeding, watering, and observation of cattle.

• Monitor cattle health and immediately report concerns or abnormalities.

• Assist with cattle movement, sorting, processing, and handling activities.

• Support vaccination, treatment, and herd health programs under management direction.

• Maintain accurate records as assigned.

Ranch Operations

• Inspect and repair fencing, gates, water systems, and ranch infrastructure.

• Operate ranch equipment safely, including tractors, skid steers, UTVs, and trailers.

• Support haying, feeding, pasture maintenance, and seasonal ranch projects.

• Assist with pasture rotations and grazing management activities.

• Help maintain clean, organized, and safe working areas.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on ranch equipment and vehicles.

• Report equipment issues and help coordinate repairs.

• Maintain barns, corrals, working facilities, and ranch grounds.

Safety & Teamwork

• Follow all ranch safety practices and company policies.

• Wear required personal protective equipment.

• Work collaboratively with ranch, feedlot, and other BCW team members.

• Assist with special projects and other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Basic understanding of cattle behavior and livestock handling practices.

• Strong attention to animal welfare and safety.

• Ability to learn new tasks and accept coaching.

• Good communication and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to adapt to changing weather, workloads, and priorities.

• Willingness to work occasional weekends, holidays, or extended hours during busy seasons.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Previous ranch, livestock, feedlot, agricultural, or outdoor labor experience preferred.

• Experience operating agricultural equipment is preferred.

• Ability to safely work around livestock.

• Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Valid driver's license required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk on uneven terrain, work around livestock, stand for prolonged periods of time, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel. Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, and dust. Exposure to noise, dust, mud, and agricultural environments frequently. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, walk; lift, push or pull objects up to 75 pounds. Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate equipment and machinery. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
