What is the difference between Weekend New Grad Software Engineer vs Part-Time Software Developer?

AspectWeekend New Grad Software EngineerPart-Time Software Developer
CredentialsRecent CS degree or equivalentRelevant experience or skills, often self-taught
Work EnvironmentInternship or entry-level projects, often in tech companiesFreelance or contract work, flexible hours

The Weekend New Grad Software Engineer typically works in structured environments, focusing on learning and contributing to company projects during weekends. In contrast, a Part-Time Software Developer often works independently, handling specific tasks or projects on a flexible schedule. Both roles involve coding and software development, but the former is more aligned with entry-level employment, while the latter offers freelance or supplementary income opportunities.

Is it true that AI will replace software engineers?

AI is a tool that can automate certain coding tasks, but it is unlikely to fully replace software engineers, especially new grads, who bring problem-solving, creativity, and adaptability to development. Software engineering involves understanding complex requirements, designing solutions, and collaborating with teams, which currently require human judgment and expertise. AI can assist engineers by increasing productivity and handling repetitive tasks, but human skills remain essential for innovation and complex decision-making.

Can you make $500,000 as a software engineer?

While most entry-level or weekend new grad software engineers earn significantly less than $500,000 annually, senior software engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working in high-paying industries or companies can reach or exceed this level through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving such compensation typically requires years of experience, advanced technical skills, and often working in roles with high responsibility or in competitive markets.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced software engineers, especially those in senior or specialized roles at large tech companies, can earn $500,000 or more annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires advanced skills, extensive experience, and often working in high-cost-of-living regions or at companies with lucrative compensation packages.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those in high-demand fields like machine learning, cloud computing, or working at large tech companies, can earn $300,000 or more annually. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and often stock options or bonuses as part of compensation packages.

In this roleย

  • Design, build andย maintainย integrations and automated workflows that connect enterprise systems (ERP, WMS, CRM, eCommerce) andย eliminateย manual handoffsย
  • Build and support data pipelines and ETL processes that move,ย transformย andย validateย data across systems ensuring the data quality and consistency that AI and analytics depend onย
  • Develop andย maintainย APIs, webhooks and event-driven automations with strong error handling,ย loggingย and monitoring so issues surface quicklyย
  • Write clean, testable scripts and services in Python, C#, or JavaScript to automate repetitive business processes and reportingย
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams toย identifyย automation opportunities, gatherย requirementsย and translate them into working solutionsย
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment practices and documentation that keep our growing automation footprint reliable and maintainableย
  • Help evaluate and implement cloud services and tools (Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Data Factory, Service Bus) that form the building blocks for future AI capabilities
  • Other duties as assigned, in accordance with training and qualificationsย
    • Uphold our core values and be a valuable member of the Four Hands team:
      • Be open and honest
      • Reach for excellence
      • Act with responsibility

The ideal personย

  • Exposure to SQL and relational databases;ย comfortable writing queries, understanding schemas and thinking about data qualityย
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and a willingness to learn CI/CD and DevOps practicesย
  • A problem-solver and self-starter who is curious about how systems work, excited to automate what's manual and comfortable learning new tools quicklyย
  • Strong communicationย skills:ย able to talk with both technical and non-technical teammates about requirements,ย trade-offsย and progressย
