Senior Network Engineer layer 2-3- Requires relocation to Fresno California

Number of positions: 2

A Fresno, California based Network Service Provider has an immediate full time opening for an experienced Network Engineer to join our Network Engineering team. The selected candidate will work on network implementations including network design, network installations, and troubleshooting support services. We are seeking network engineering candidates that have a strong LAN/WAN network experience, excellent IP routing experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to assist with planning network migrations.

Specific Responsibilities

· Provide Managed Network engineering and support services to assigned customer accounts and projects,

· Assist with growth & management of projects within the team,

· Ensure high customer satisfaction in both network deliverables and engineering services performed,

· Be a member of the Network Engineering team supporting our network deployments and implementations,

· Assist with network logistic services inclusive of staging, burn-in, pre-configuration, and kitting of network NIDs, switches, and routers,

· Build configuration templates and final configuration files to be loaded onto network NIDs, switches, and routers in conjunction with clients,

· Ability to view and review pseudo wire, MPLS, and DWDM paths

· Perform network installations at customer locations inclusive of physical installation, network NIDs, switches, and router turn up, configuration and network testing,

· Perform Ethernet network characteristic testing utilizing RFC2544 test equipment,

· Assist clients develop a network migration plan from legacy networks to newly designed network infrastructure,

· Assist internal project management, network technicians, systems engineer and network engineer team.

Technical Qualifications

· 3-5 years’ experience in a network engineering role supporting Wide Area Networks (WAN) and/or Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN),

· Proficient with handling and troubleshooting problems with a WAN and/or MAN,

· Proficient with all IP Routing protocols, with experience in OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP,

· Experience deploying IP MPLS CE networks and protocols; L3 VPN, L2 PWE, and IP/MPLS knowledge a plus,

· Experience with DWDM equipment is a plus: ROADMs, Amplifiers, OTN, Transponders,

· Experience with various Fiber Optics light levels and Transceivers: SFP, SPF+, QSFP28, DCM, BiDi, SR, LR, ER, ZR,

· Proficient with Cisco configuring and troubleshooting switches and routers,

· Experience with configuring and troubleshooting ADVA & Telco System NIDs is a plus

· Knowledge of Cisco VPLS and PWE protocols/configurations,

· Candidate must be able to contribute to all layers of network design, development, testing, implementation, and support,

· Network certifications, such as CCNA and CCNP are a plus,

· Experience with the following network equipment is a plus: Cisco ASR-9000 series (IOS-XR), Cisco ASR920 series (IOS-XE), Cisco 15454.

Must Haves

·       Be on-call for network support.

·       Travel to customer sites for troubleshooting if required.

·       Be available for after hour customer support and maintenance windows.

·       Be escalation point for customer issues.

·       Work with onsite technicians for technical project timelines.

·       Able to create technical MOPs and knowledge base.  

·       Must work with technicians for annual maintenance for cooling/ power equipment at pop sites.

Non-Technical Qualifications

· Possess a bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, or equivalent work experience,

· Ability to lead internal teams to successful network deployments,

· Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously,

· Ability to work independently to meet project milestones,

· Ability to investigate and resolve network issues to include documentation/communication of issue,

· Excellent communication and problem-solving skills,

· Ability to work within a team environment,

· Role requires travel as per troubleshooting needs.

· Role requires to be on call for network troubleshooting and installations.

· OTDR testing/ troubleshooting experience is a plus.

· Optical networks troubleshooting/ implementation is a plus.

· A valid California Driver's License is required.

· Travel is estimated at <25%>

· Occasional after hour support is required.

· Escalation point when requires.
