Job description

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer & Project Lead to join our growing IT team.
This position is responsible for owning and delivering IT projects end-to-end while serving as the final technical escalation point for complex issues in our MSP environment. The right candidate will combine deep technical expertise with the ability to lead, mentor, and make authoritative decisions that guide both clients and team members.
Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Implementation
  • Own and lead IT projects including client on-boardings, network overhauls, cloud migrations, and security implementations.
  • Plan, scope, and document project objectives, timelines, resources, and outcomes to ensure repeatable processes.
  • Direct and coordinate project execution, delegating tasks to team members while maintaining accountability for overall success.
  • Provide regular client-facing communication for scoping, progress updates, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Conduct post-project reviews to assess outcomes, identify improvements, and establish best practices.
  • Act as the technical authority and decision-maker on project approaches, standards, and implementations.

Escalation & Advanced Support
  • Serve as the final point of escalation for complex technical issues beyond the scope of Tier 1 and Tier 2 Support Engineers.
  • Resolve advanced escalations involving Microsoft technologies, including Office 365, SharePoint, and Windows Server.
  • Provide expert support for advanced network infrastructure, including WAN/LAN connectivity, VLAN configuration, routers, firewalls, and security.
  • Troubleshoot and manage remote access solutions (OpenVPN, IPSec, RDS) at an expert level.
  • Guide team members through escalated troubleshooting, ensuring knowledge transfer and technical growth.

Mentorship & Team Development
  • Act as a coach and mentor to Tier 1 and Tier 2 Support Engineers to expand their skills and confidence in handling technical challenges.
  • Promote a collaborative team culture through strong leadership, accountability, and knowledge sharing.
  • Set technical direction and raise the standard of delivery across the support team.

Documentation & Process Development
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for project plans, escalations, and recurring issues.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for project execution, technical support, and escalation management.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to internal processes to improve efficiency and service quality.
Qualifications
Technical Expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft technologies: Office 365, SharePoint, and Windows Server.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and technologies: VLANs, DNS, firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Strong understanding of virtualization, specifically with Proxmox and VMware ESXi.
  • Experience with remote access solutions like VPNs and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.
  • Proficiency with RMM tools and automation scripting.
  • Certifications: CCNA or Network+ preferred; VMware or Proxmox certifications preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of MSP experience, supporting multiple clients in diverse environments.
  • Proven track record of owning and successfully delivering IT projects from start to finish.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the highest technical escalation point in an MSP.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, network monitoring tools, and IT operations software.

Leadership & Soft Skills
  • Proven leadership ability to direct projects, guide teams, and make final technical decisions.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance multiple projects and escalations.
