Term:Part-time, occasional evening and weekends required

Position Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $20-$33 per hour (based on experience)

About the Role: The Senior Outreach Coordinator will report to the Outreach Manager and is primarily responsible for coordinating outreach initiatives in at least two of CAIR-LA's regions, overseeing CAIR-LA canvassers, and supervising successful completion of all CAIR-LA outreach grant deliverables. In addition to these responsibilities, the position acts as a community liaison and ambassador for CAIR-LA. This position is largely in the field interfacing with the Greater Los Angeles Muslim community with a focus on serving and supporting Santa Barbara. The outreach associate is an energetic, creative, and personable leader who is passionate and knowledgeable about CAIR-LA's scope of work and goals. This person drives community engagement, builds our network of volunteers, and plans outreach events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Work with management to develop and implement outreach planning for at least two major regions within Southern California to further develop CAIR-LA's presence and accessibility to community and drive continued community support of CAIR-LA.
  • Advance comprehensive mosque outreach plan including seasonal development campaigns, such as Ramadan, Friday prayer, and annual gala, in at least two major regions within Southern California.
  • Support with volunteer management including identification, recruitment, relational building, and engagement of volunteer database.
  • Lead community canvassers who will be tasked with tabling, flyering, and other forms of outreach throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area.
  • Maintain CAIR-LA outreach initiatives to further partnerships with Islamic centers, MSAs, youth groups, Muslim community leaders, civil rights nonprofits, and other partners to advance CAIR-LA's work and expand outreach efforts.
  • Plan and participate in community outreach and educational activities, including Friday prayer outreach, Ramadan outreach, resource fairs, KYRs, and other community events.
  • Maintain all relationships and deepen existing relationships to further CAIR-LA's fundraising, programming, and other objectives with partners with the focus on two counties in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
  • Review all outreach grants to ensure the successful submission and completion of grants, including preparing grant applications, ensuring the successful completion of deliverables, and developing grant reports.
  • Create and distribute educational and marketing material in collaboration with teams and maintain updated inventory tracking of all outreach literature.
  • Attend relevant internal and external events, activities, and meetings as needed.
  • Assist in the promotion and delivery of CAIR-LA's programs, campaigns, and advocacy efforts, including Ramadan, Annual Gala, Know Your Rights presentations, legal services, flagship programs, civic engagement, and legislative efforts.
  • Other office duties as needed including day-to-day operational tasks and assisting with organizational fundraising events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or four years of experience in related field is required.
  • Two years of experience working with the Muslim community required.
  • One year of management experience preferred.
  • Fluent/proficient in one of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, or Urdu is preferred.
  • Familiarity, knowledge, and experience working with the American Muslim community is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability for managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be productive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking experience.
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Access to reliable transportation to drive to various Southern California cities.
  • High degree of self-motivation and initiative.
  • A strong commitment to CAIR's mission and values.
  • Basic computer proficiency including knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of cloud applications such as SharePoint, Office365 and social media applications.
