Weekend Microwave Transmission Engineer Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Summary This requisition expires on July 8, 2026, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date. Responsible for detailed analysis, plans, studies, and documentation in support of planning and designing for the Denton Municipal Electric (DME) electric system expansion, modification, operations, and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of electric power. Essential Functions and Other Important Duties Essential Functions: Identify areas of system and business needs, propose practical solution, and assist with implementation of project plans and business decisions.

Prepare designs for extensions and modifications to the electrical system to include detailed analyses and structural and electrical calculations where appropriate. Design requirements will be in distribution line, system protection and equipment control. Complete research for and develop overhead and underground line construction standards and practices including data and calculation on strengths and electrical performance (Power Quality & Reliability - PQ&R).

Prepare and maintain documentation for approved construction, electric service, and PQ&R standards. Prepare detailed analysis, plans, studies, and other documentation in support of planning and design for expansion, modification and maintenance of the electrical system. Prepare and maintain databases for transmission and distribution analytical software.

Use the software for analyses to evaluate the performance of system components, to identify and validate projects for resolution of deficiencies, and to plan for future needs. Identify and provide justifications for projects for inclusion in the capital improvement plan. Participate in the preparation and administration of the department's budget and implementation of the work plan.

Develop written documentation and reports for such items as design; specifications, customer plan review, electrical reviews for Development Review Committee items equipment selections; standards and procedures, agenda items for the Public Utilities Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, and City Council; planning studies; special reports; project proposals; or any other area of department responsibility. Perform project management for capital improvement projects. Research technical advancements and disseminate information as appropriate.

Insure compliance with federal, state, and local electrical, safety, and regulatory codes. Attend and represent Denton Municipal Electric at customer and contractor meetings. Assist as required with surveying and staking activities.

Prepare documentation, reviews, reconciliation, and any other information to support the accounting processes required of the Electric Engineering Department. Maintain effective interdepartmental and interdivisional working relationships. Utilize teamwork concepts and maintain a demeanor that promotes positive and effective relationships with customers and co-workers.

Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. Assist with electric system emergencies.

This could require working extended periods, including weekends and holidays. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Transmission Engineer I Summary Entry-level professional responsible for supporting engineering analysis, design, documentation, and field coordination for Denton Municipal Electric (DME). Works under close supervision while developing competency in transmission engineering principles.

Essential Functions Assist senior engineers with analyses, planning studies, and design documentation supporting DME system expansion and maintenance. Perform basic engineering calculations and prepare draft drawings, reports, and specifications. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software under guidance.

Support field staff by reviewing redlines and documenting field changes. Participate in root-cause investigations for equipment issues by gathering data and preparing summaries. Attend internal meetings and observe external stakeholder interactions.

Assist with Development Review by performing preliminary plan checks. Maintain engineering files, databases, and project documentation. Transmission-Specific Duties Assist with evaluating transmission system performance under normal and contingency conditions.

Support senior engineers in preparing load flow, short-circuit, and stability study inputs. Participate in site visits to document existing infrastructure. Assist with maintaining transmission analytical software databases.

Support compliance documentation for ERCOT, NERC, and PUCT requirements. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field. 0-2 years of engineering experience.

Skills & Abilities Foundational knowledge of engineering concepts and applicable codes. Ability to learn NERC, ERCOT, PUCT, NESC, and IEEE standards. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and introductory engineering software.

Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively in a team. Transmission Engineer II Summary Intermediate-level engineer responsible for performing engineering analyses, design tasks, and project coordination with moderate supervision. Expected to manage small projects and contribute to larger transmission initiatives.

Essential Functions Perform engineering analyses, planning studies, and design calculations with increasing independence. Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Review field redlines and propose solutions for routine design issues.

Conduct equipment failure investigations and prepare technical summaries. Participate in stakeholder meetings and represent DME on routine matters. Support Development Review by performing detailed plan and specification reviews.

Assist with preparing project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules. Transmission-Specific Duties Perform portions of load flow, short-circuit, and stability studies. Support capital improvement projects from planning through construction.

Conduct site visits and assist with troubleshooting transmission equipment. Maintain and update transmission analytical databases. Assist with ERCOT Working Group participation as assigned.

Support compliance activities and documentation for TRE audits. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. 2-4 years of engineering experience.

Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of NERC, ERCOT, PUCT, NESC, and IEEE standards. Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD or PSSE. Ability to manage small projects and coordinate with contractors and internal teams.

Transmission Engineer III Summary Advanced-level engineer responsible for independently performing complex engineering analyses, leading portions of major projects, and providing technical guidance to junior staff. Essential Functions Lead engineering analyses, planning studies, and design work for transmission projects.

Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents. Lead root-cause analyses for equipment failures and system disturbances. Represent DME in internal and external stakeholder meetings.

Lead Development Review for transmission-related projects. Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and justifications for capital planning. Mentor and guide Transmission Engineers I and II.

Transmission-Specific Duties Lead load flow, short-circuit, and stability studies supporting system expansion and reliability. Manage capital improvement projects from initiation through completion. Oversee transmission system performance evaluations and propose system upgrades.

Participate in ERCOT Working Groups and ensure DME compliance. Prepare and maintain analytical software databases and validate system models. Conduct easement encroachment analyses.

Proven ability to respond quickly, effectively, and professionally in difficult situations. Experience in project/consultant management, project review, and capital planning.
