Job Summary/Description:
WVVA (Gray Local Media) in Bluefield, WV, is looking for a weather pro with personality to join our award-winning team as Weekend Meteorologist / Multimedia Journalist. If you're ready to forecast in a true four-seasons country and get your feet wet in journalism, telling great stories that matter, this is the job for you!
Bring the forecast! Bring the Story! We're searching for a self-motivated, quality-driven meteorologist who loves digging into the "why" behind the weather and can translate it into clear, engaging on-air and digital coverage. You'll be a confident forecaster, compelling communicator, and a true team player in both weather and news!
This position owns the weekend weather desk!
Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
What will you do? (including but not limited to):
- Anchor weekend weather coverage
- Create and deliver fast, accurate, audience-friendly forecasts
- Break down complex weather into clear, relatable information
- Produce written and multimedia content for all platforms
- Three days a week generate original and leadable story ideas covering weather/science stories as well as general assignment news
- Occasionally fill-in forecasting during the weekdays
Qualifications/Requirements:
What you'll need? (including but not limited to):
- Bachelor's degree in meteorology or related field preferred
- Have a credible presence and be comfortable on air
- Solid weather computer system experience preferred
- Strong social media skills (engage, respond, build community) a plus
- Works well under pressure and tight deadlines
- Flexible schedule with a team-first mindset
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driver's record check
