We are seeking a Medical Assistant with previous dermatology experience who will work under the direct supervision of an experienced, passionate and talented dermatologist.

The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about patient care, empathic, energetic, dependable, organized, punctual, has great bedside manners and able to multitask.

JOB DESCRIPTION- Medical Assistant - Dermatology

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Physician / Office Manager

JOB SUMMARY: This position supports the physician by doing patient intakes (Chief Complaints (CC) and History of Present Illness (HPI), preparing procedure trays, scribing during patient exam, stocking exam rooms and assisting with patient care, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare exam rooms for patient examinations

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and perform medical history intake by accurately reconciling patients’ medications, allergies and current problem list/chief complaint

  • Accurate and efficient patient care and documentation/scribing on iPad using EMA (Electronic Medical Record) in exam rooms while assisting physician

  • Efficiently obtain medical history, test results, treatment plans and other medical information

  • Communicate via telephone to answer calls/messages with patients, pharmacies and other physician offices

  • Assist physicians during examinations with instruments, setting up surgical/medical procedure trays (Biopsy, Excision, ED&C, I&D), and suture removals

  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, skin care regimen, and physician’s Instructions to patients

  • Clean and sterilize instruments and autoclave using proper techniques

  • Stock exam room weekly (detailed) and/or restock at the end of each day

  • Clean rooms between patients

  • Authorize drug refills with physician’s approval and provide prescription information to pharmacies

  • Completing prior authorizations for medications and biologic treatments

  • Arrange laboratory specimens and accurately prepare for specimen pick-up

  • Inventory for medical, lab, office supplies and equipment

  • Keep track of lab and test results, skin cancer logs and following up with patients

  • Adherence to HIPAA and OSHA regulations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting: Average weight is 5-25 pounds for a distance up to 4 feet

  • Assisting patients on/off exam bed, or in/out of wheelchair may be necessary

  • Bending: Occasionally

  • Pushing: Assisting wheelchair patients of any weight may be required

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, with shift lengths up to 7 hours

  • Ability to tolerate viewing on computer monitor or iPads for extended periods
