Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Supervisor, Coding Professional Fee, you will supervise professional fee coders and support staff for assigned departments, overseeing coding, abstracting, and charge posting for physician services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Every day you will actively manage charge lag by monitoring reports and work queue activity, monitor staff quality and productivity, and provide education as needed. You will also collaborate with clinics and providers to resolve coding issues, and participate in personnel management, scheduling, productivity, quality, and problem resolution with management.

To be successful in this role, you will possess strong expertise in professional fee coding (inpatient/outpatient), proven supervisory and leadership skills, and the ability to manage staff, monitor productivity, and ensure compliance.

  • Directly supervises personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.

  • Promotes coding quality to comply with payer guidelines and regulations.

  • Conducts quality control audits of staff to verify coding quality metrics are maintained and identify opportunities for further education.

  • Manages processes within the system to verify coding completion timelines are maintained.

  • Evaluates staffing needs and optimizes resource use through crosstraining/crosscoverage to promote consistent processing of charges.

  • Trains technical and other staff on coding practices, policies and procedures, system, and payer regulations.

Job Requirements

Required

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in health care and revenue cycle experience required within a physician practice

  • Certified Professional Coder, CPC or CCSP

  • Professional coding experience

  • Must demonstrate competency of professional coding and coding guidelines

  • Experience with the electronic health record (EHR) and health care applications

Preferred

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience

  • Certified Professional Medical Auditor, additional coding certifications (specialty credential(s)/CPMA)
