Job Summary
Mechanics are responsible for performing jobs involving the service and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team. This position will service multiple locations in Alabama – Birmingham, Hanceville, Sylacauga, Decatur and various customer locations throughout the Birmingham Metro area. Mechanics must have their own hand tools. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and repair include earth moving equipment, diesel engines, small engines, and pickup trucks. Extensive on the job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to maintain safety requirements. The Mechanic will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner.
What You’ll Do
  • Plans and performs repairs using correct tools, procedures, and diagnostic measures.
  • Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner maintaining accurate entries into our maintenance software and tracking systems.
  • Performs the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments
  • Performs Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
  • Works independently in the field as required
  • Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
  • Replaces defective components as instructed
  • Interacts with Operations Personnel to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
  • Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT)
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Additional duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work
  • Commitment to safety and following established procedures
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel when required
  • Ability to work in industrial environments with varying conditions (heat, cold, noise, etc.) including atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic, or corrosive
  • Ability to engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting and pulling heavy objects up to 75lbs
  • Ability to operate light and heavy equipment, handles various hand tools and powered industrial tools, works with vibration-producing tools
  • Ability to work in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low clearance
  • Ability to work at elevations including working from ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to be on call for emergency response on rotating basis every other week
Required Qualifications
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug test, and physical
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation to commute to and from work
  • Reliable phone to respond quickly when on call
  • Minimum of one (1) year's work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills
  • Experience with TMT system a plus but not required (we will train)
Working Conditions
Work is normally performed in a Service Department shop. Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position. Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.
