How much do weekend mastercam programmer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for weekend mastercam programmer in the United States is $33.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $28.85 and $34.13 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Mastercam Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Mastercam Programmer, you need expertise in CNC programming, strong understanding of machining processes, and proficiency with Mastercam software, often supported by vocational training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems, G-code, and experience operating CNC machines are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective time management are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure efficient programming, minimize machine downtime, and maintain high-quality output during weekend shifts when support may be limited.

How much do mastercam programmers make?

Mastercam programmers typically earn between $20 and $40 per hour, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled programmers with certifications and proficiency in CAD/CAM software can earn higher wages, especially in manufacturing environments with complex machining needs.

What is a Weekend Mastercam Programmer?

A Weekend Mastercam Programmer is a skilled professional who works primarily on weekends to create and optimize CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tool paths using Mastercam software. Their main responsibilities include interpreting engineering drawings, designing tool paths, and programming CNC machines to manufacture precision parts. These roles are often found in manufacturing environments that operate extended hours, and weekend programmers help maximize machine uptime by providing programming support outside of standard weekday shifts.

Can a CNC machinist make 100k a year?

A CNC machinist, including those specializing as a Mastercam programmer, can potentially earn $100,000 annually with advanced skills, experience, and working in high-demand industries or overtime. Achieving this salary often requires proficiency with CAD/CAM software, certifications, and working in environments that offer premium pay or incentives.

What is the difference between Weekend Mastercam Programmer vs Weekend CNC Machinist?

AspectWeekend Mastercam ProgrammerWeekend CNC Machinist
CredentialsTypically requires Mastercam certification or experience, technical training in CAD/CAM softwareRequires CNC machine operation experience, possibly certifications in machine operation
Work EnvironmentDesign and programming in CAD/CAM software, often in office or computer lab settingsOperate CNC machines directly, in manufacturing or workshop settings
Employer & IndustryManufacturing, aerospace, automotive, machine shopsManufacturing, metalworking, custom fabrication shops

The main difference is that a Weekend Mastercam Programmer focuses on creating and optimizing CNC programs using CAD/CAM software, while a Weekend CNC Machinist operates and sets up CNC machines. Both roles are essential in manufacturing but differ in responsibilities and skill sets.

What are some of the unique challenges a Weekend Mastercam Programmer might face compared to standard weekday shifts?

Weekend Mastercam Programmers often work with less on-site supervision and support, which requires a high degree of independence and problem-solving ability. Communication with weekday teams can be challenging, so keeping detailed notes and clear documentation is important to ensure a smooth handoff. Additionally, weekend shifts may involve urgent or time-sensitive projects to keep machines running efficiently, making adaptability and quick decision-making valuable skills for success in this role.

Will AI replace CNC programmers?

AI can assist CNC programmers by optimizing tool paths and automating routine tasks, but it is unlikely to fully replace skilled programmers who interpret complex designs, troubleshoot issues, and make real-time decisions. CNC programming requires expertise, creativity, and adaptability that current AI systems do not fully replicate. Therefore, CNC programmers will continue to play a vital role alongside automation tools in manufacturing environments.

Are CNC programmers in high demand?

CNC programmers, including Weekend Mastercam Programmers, are in high demand due to the ongoing need for skilled machinists in manufacturing. Proficiency with CAD/CAM software and understanding of machining processes increase employability in this field.
