Job description

Job Summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the Manufacturing Engineering function to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance across manufacturing operations. This role provides strategic and technical leadership to engineering resources while ensuring manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems are capable, scalable, and aligned with business growth objectives.
The Engineering Manager develops engineering capability, establishes standardized engineering practices, and leads capital, continuous improvement, and new product introduction initiatives. This role serves as the primary liaison between Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure the organization can successfully launch new business and continuously improve operational performance.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
Engineering Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop Manufacturing Engineers, Process Engineers, and Engineering Technicians.
  • Establish engineering priorities aligned with business strategy and operational objectives.
  • Build engineering capability through training, mentorship, and succession planning.
  • Establish standardized engineering tools, methods, and best practices across facilities.
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations for engineering resources.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Manufacturing Performance Improvement
  • Drive initiatives to improve throughput, productivity, OEE/OPE, lead time, and manufacturing capacity.
  • Lead efforts to reduce scrap, rework, downtime, and manufacturing costs.
  • Establish and monitor engineering KPIs and performance dashboards.
  • Identify manufacturing constraints and develop sustainable solutions.
  • Support cellular manufacturing strategies and value stream optimization.

Process Development & Standardization
  • Oversee development and maintenance of:
    • Manufacturing process flows
    • Routings and standards
    • Work instructions
    • Engineering specifications
    • Equipment standards
    • Jig and fixture systems
  • Ensure manufacturing processes are capable, repeatable, and scalable.
  • Drive implementation of standardized engineering methodologies across multiple facilities.

Capital Equipment & Technology Strategy
  • Develop capital plans aligned with growth and capacity requirements.
  • Lead equipment specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Evaluate and implement manufacturing technologies, automation, and digital solutions.
  • Ensure equipment safety, reliability, and maintainability requirements are achieved.
  • Support long-term manufacturing footprint and capacity planning.

New Product Introduction (NPI) & APQP
  • Provide engineering leadership throughout the NPI and APQP processes.
  • Ensure manufacturing readiness for new programs and product launches.
  • Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM), process capability development, and production validation activities.
  • Identify manufacturing risks and implement mitigation plans.
  • Partner with Quality to ensure PPAP requirements and launch deliverables are successfully completed.

Project Management
  • Lead large-scale engineering projects from concept through implementation.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities across facilities.
  • Provide regular communication regarding project status, risks, and mitigation activities.
  • Ensure projects deliver measurable business outcomes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Operations to improve manufacturing performance and support growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Sales, and Commercial teams on strategic initiatives.
  • Support customer requirements, quoting activities, and contract reviews for significant projects.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for manufacturing and process-related issues.

Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout all engineering activities.
  • Ensure equipment and process designs meet applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead risk assessments and Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSR/PHSR).
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and company standards.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 8-10+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience.
  • 3-5+ years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading manufacturing improvement initiatives and capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, automation, and production systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities.

Preferred Requirements
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility.
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, copper fabrication, or complex manufacturing environments.
  • Multi-site manufacturing experience.
  • APQP, PPAP, and NPI leadership experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with ERP/MES systems and manufacturing analytics.
  • Experience developing cellular manufacturing strategies and value stream transformations.
