Job Description:

KFSN-TV/ABC30 Action News, the ABC Owned Television Station in Central California, is seeking an experienced News Photographer. This position is essential to gathering the high-quality content that feeds our top-rated newscasts. The role is critical to covering stories across our six-county viewing area in Central California. We are looking for a modern content creator who works productively as a team with a reporter or independently. We want someone to join our team who is inherently creative, embraces new technology and has a desire to expand their storytelling techniques on a daily basis. A successful candidate will be highly motivated with a proven track record in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of daily local news gathering. The ideal candidate thrives under continuous deadlines, approaches challenges with a problemsolving mindset, and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and a proven work ethic.

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day local news gathering in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Shoot & edit video for daily newscasts while meeting strict deadlines

  • Set up, light, and transmit live shots

  • Communicate with assignment desk & producers

  • Assist with upkeep of equipment

  • Create graphic elements for news stories

  • Work and collaborate as part of a team when assigned with a reporter

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a photojournalist with live transmission technologies such as satellite, microwave/broadband and streaming

  • Experience in relevant broadcast (e.g., editor or production camera operator)

  • Must have a clean driving record and be willing join the IBEW union

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Proficiency in field cameras, lighting, and non-linear editing (Adobe Premiere or similar systems)

  • Knowledge of live technology, such as Dejero and LiveU

  • Ability to work as a self-starter, often alone, to find, shoot, and report stories with strong news judgment

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, especially for breaking news

  • Ability to carry and move up to 50+ pounds of equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Small to medium market experience as a News Photographer/Editor

  • Experience creating vertical videos

  • Ability to provide digital content for social media posts along with broadcast coverage

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:

  • Some college preferred

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between IBEW-45 and KFSN-TV. The pay rate for this role in Fresno, CA is $21 to $30 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
