Job description

Linux Administrator
Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems both SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 12x (SLES) and Ubuntu Server 20x LTS. This role involves server-side operations and troubleshooting tasks that support business-critical and development activities.
Essential Duties:
The Linux Admin will perform the following key functions:
  • Provide recommendations for system improvements, optimization, and deployment plans.
  • Perform implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Linux & Windows systems to ensure maximum up time and optimal refresh intervals
  • Perform routine system maintenance and resolve server issues as they arise. This aspect of the role requires the Linux administrator to review error logs and reported errors and seek out solutions.
  • Leverage support providers as required, act as single point of contact, managing service providers.
  • Understand and implement security best practices within system design and work with security specialists to minimize vulnerabilities, coordinate security planning with management.
  • Recommend designs, provide cost analysis, plan projects, and coordinate tasks for installation system upgrades and maintenance.
  • Provide documentation, training, and team guidance.
  • Facilitate AD / SMB Interoperability
  • Facilitate NFS and remote drive maps
  • Installing programs using rpm, zypper, and APT-GET
  • Monitor system performance trough command line and SolarWinds to prevent slowdowns and crashes.
  • Examine daily traffic logs and reports or receive direct reports from end users.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to developers and other administrators. In many cases, the Linux administrator works closely with other developers to answer technical questions or resolve issues with server performance.
  • SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12/15 & Ubuntu Server 20x LTS Administration
  • Basic Windows Server Administration (Server 2012R2 - 2019)
  • Participation in nights and weekend projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is required.
  • Minimum 3 + years of related Linux Administration work experience.
  • Knowledge of SuSE, Ubuntu or RedHat Linux -design, operations, and troubleshooting
  • Virtualization experience (VMware or Hyper-V)
  • Experience supporting Windows SAMBA/AD, NFS, Volume Management, BASH Scripting
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, O365, etc.) is a plus.
  • Microsoft SQL, Exchange, SSL, or IIS is a plus.
  • SAN experience (Dell EMC, Synology, Pure) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Requires ability to work both independently and in a group environment.
