The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Senior Librarian to be part of the Torrance Public Library Team. The Department The City of Torrance Community Services Department is dedicated to enriching the quality of life for the community by providing inclusive, innovative, and customer-focused programs, services, and facilities for residents of all ages. The Department oversees a diverse range of operations, including parks and recreation services, library services, cultural arts, community events, youth and senior programs, athletics, facility rentals, and community engagement initiatives.

Through well-maintained public spaces, educational and recreational opportunities, and meaningful community partnerships, the Department fosters lifelong learning, health and wellness, cultural enrichment, and civic pride while supporting a vibrant and connected Torrance community. The Division The Torrance Public Library serves the community through a network of welcoming neighborhood libraries that provide access to books, digital resources, technology, educational programming, and cultural enrichment opportunities for all ages. Our main library is centrally located in the Civic Center and five branches are conveniently located within a five-mile radius of the main library.

The Library Division has a circulation of over 1.2 million funded with a budget of $7.2 million and staffed with approximately 67 employees.The library system is committed to supporting lifelong learning, community engagement, literacy, and equitable access to information through innovative services, knowledgeable staff, and responsive public programs. The Position The City of Torrance is seeking an experienced and service-oriented Senior Librarian to lead branch library operations or specialized library services. This supervisory role oversees library staff, programs, collections, and daily operations while delivering high-quality public service to a diverse community

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for public librarianship, and the ability to develop engaging library programs, manage budgets, and foster positive community relationships. QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Any combination of education and experience that would have provided the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited college or university and three years of professional public library experience in area of responsibility. Successful candidates will possess the following: Ability to effectively supervise various professional and paraprofessional staff; Strong decision-making, planning, and scheduling skills; Ability to work collaboratively across the organization with an emphasis on a professional, ethical and inclusive mindset; Recent, relevant public library experience; Experience and knowledge of presenting programs and cultivating community partnerships; Ability to work varying schedule, including but not limited to weeknights and weekends.
