About Christ Church Cathedral
Christ Church Cathedral is a vibrant Episcopal cathedral in the heart of Indianapolis, welcoming worshippers, visitors, and the broader community seven days a week. The Role
As our Maintenance & Facilities Coordinator, you will be the heart of our building operations: maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across our campus and ensuring that every event, service, and daily activity has the space and setup it needs to succeed. You'll work closely with our Property and Facilities Manager and the broader Cathedral staff, with a schedule that includes evenings and weekends to support the life of the Cathedral.
What You'll Do
Custodial Care and Building Maintenance
  • Clean and maintain all areas of the Cathedral campus: nave, narthex, offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, sacristy, choir room, library, parish hall, and grounds
  • Perform routine custodial duties including vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, and restroom sanitation
  • Make minor repairs in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical systems; coordinate with vendors for larger needs
  • Maintain and monitor the security system, video/camera recording equipment, and alarm systems
  • Perform seasonal grounds care, including trash pickup, sidewalk washing, and assisting with plantings
  • Identify and proactively propose facility improvement projects to the Property and Facilities Manager

Hospitality and Event Support
  • Open and prepare the building at least 30 minutes before any scheduled event, service, or activity
  • Set up and restore furniture and spaces for worship, meetings, receptions, concerts, and special events
  • Welcome and assist visitors and guests with warmth and professionalism throughout the day
  • Assist clergy during weddings, funerals, and special services, including directing bridal parties and supporting funeral directors when requested
  • Securely close the building, ensuring all guests have departed and all areas are locked and alarmed

Community and Ministry Support
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings to stay connected to Cathedral priorities and coordinate with the team
  • Complete required Safe Church training, including Safeguarding God's Children and Safeguarding God's People
  • Report any suspected abuse or neglect as required by the Diocese, Church, and state regulations
  • Cover duties for the Property and Facilities Manager when needed

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, custodial operations, or building management
  • Working knowledge of general building systems: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, using an assistive device as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and basic office equipment
  • Reliability, flexibility, and availability for some evening and weekend hours

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or certification in HVAC, plumbing, or a related technical field
  • Prior experience working in a church, school, or nonprofit environment
  • Spanish language skills (spoken, read, and written)

Compensation and Benefits
Christ Church Cathedral offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, along with a benefits package that reflects our commitment to the wellbeing of our staff.
  • Full-time, non-exempt position.
  • Hourly rate: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • Core working hours fall between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. The schedule will include some evenings and weekends and may occasionally change.to support Cathedral worship and events. Additional hours are expected during the Christmas and Easter seasons.
