Job description

Join our client in a crucial role supporting a major library and archives move and digitization initiative. This temporary position offers the opportunity to contribute to preserving and digitizing valuable collections while working in a dynamic environment that balances on-site and remote work. As a Library Assistant, you'll play a vital part in organizing, preparing, and packaging materials for digitization and storage, ensuring the smooth transition of an extensive collection to its new home. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for library science and archival work who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.


Compensation

$30.00/hour


Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing materials and detailed lists for digitization efforts
  • Categorize and sort archival materials, including film canisters, artifacts, and documents
  • Identify and catalog unique items to streamline the digitization process
  • Contribute to catalog management by updating records and removing obsolete entries
  • Package fragile and significant items carefully for storage or shipment
  • Support the packing of journals, artifacts, awards, and gifts for storage and shipping
  • Collaborate to organize materials for donation or transfer, ensuring accuracy and efficiency


Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or enrollment in an MLS program with relevant experience
  • 1 to 3 years of experience working in libraries or archives
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a hybrid work environment
  • Familiarity with micrographics, digital reformatting, and preservation techniques
  • Competence with SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to commute to Quincy, MA, and Avon, MA locations as required
