Job description

Job Title: Media Student Assistant
Department: Library
Supervisor: Bryan Nicholls
Starting Rate of Pay: $8.00
Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.
Department Description
Media Services at HPU Libraries provides patrons with assistance in completing media projects, media production equipment, and access to titles from our film and video game collections. As a student employee, you will gain experience working in an academic library, while enhancing your knowledge of library resources and procedures.
Job Description
Student employees are responsible for supporting patrons with needs related to media projects and using specialized software. They will also circulate media equipment, return materials to their designated locations in the library once materials are returned, and complete other duties as assigned.
Job Location/ Hours Required
The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Smith Library. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires up to (15) hours per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Assists patrons with media projects that require multimedia software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and more.
  • Circulates multimedia items from the library collection, such as movies and video games, to library patrons using proper procedures.
  • Circulates multimedia equipment such as digital cameras, camcorders, and more, using proper procedures.
  • Checks returned multimedia equipment for all parts, puts away equipment, and notifies librarian of any issues.
  • Returns all media items to their designated location in the library once materials are returned.
  • Assists patrons with in-person and online requests for media materials.
  • Completes other duties assigned by the Multimedia Librarian.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be able to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively with library staff, patrons, and visitors. Applicants must be comfortable using multimedia software, such as Adobe CC Suite. Applicants should also have strong interpersonal skills to support patrons with projects.
