Job Description
Responsible for providing health care services in the outpatient and inpatient clinical settings, within scope of education and experience. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and customer service.
Responsibilities
  • Accurately performs and reports laboratory testing in timely manner according to laws and regulations.
  • Properly identifies patients, without exception, prior to specimen collection.
  • Properly collects (phlebotomy), labels, processes and preserves specimens in a timely manner.
  • Orders necessary supplies or notifies the person responsible for ordering them.
  • Operates equipment appropriately.
  • Performs routine office duties such as customer service, answering the phone, stocking, cleaning, copying, faxing, coding, order entry, charges, reports, and filing.
  • Takes responsibility for departmental coverage coordinating with other technologists/ technicians.
  • Notifies the laboratory manager or lead of any issues/complaints that may arise from customers or patients.
  • Supports regulatory functions for CLIA certification, RHC, and JCAHO; including annual competency training.
  • Performs all duties according to entity policies and procedures.
  • Transports patient samples to the hospital laboratory for analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • H.S. Diploma - High School Diploma or GED - Required

Work Experience
  • none required

Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 Days
  • CPI: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Required within 90 Days
  • Certification by approved accredited phlebotomy course - Preferred Upon Hire

Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

  • Ability to speak clearly. Ability to type on computer keyboard.
  • Ability to read, write, count, and reason required.
  • Good communication skill and precise hand\eye coordination.

Interpersonal Skills
  • Must have very good interpersonal skills; able to give instructions and directions clearly; understand and think through processes.

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift 20-30 pounds, good vision.

Essential Mental Abilities
  • Ability to follow protocol for performing necessary computer operations.
  • Ability to concentrate on process of inputting data to computer screens in noisy environment with many interruptions.
  • Ability to organize workflow and workload efficiently.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work area.

Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to see to read requisitions and labels, perform phlebotomy, and operate computer.
  • Ability to hear in order to use telephone and communicate with Referral clients and staff.

Exposure to Hazards
  • Infectious body fluids, hazardous chemicals and fumes, and the possibility of needle-stick.
