SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITES
The IT Systems Engineer is part of a small, collaborative technology operations team that keeps district systems, networks, devices, and accounts reliable, secure, and available for students and staff. This position supports the day-to-day operation of core infrastructure and helps reduce single-person dependencies by building shared knowledge across the team.

This is a broad K-12 systems role, not a single-platform specialist position. A strong foundation in directory services and identity management is especially important because Active Directory, Microsoft Entra/Azure, Rapid Identity, Jamf, and Google Workspace support secure access to district applications, devices, and learning resources. The ideal candidate is a practical problem-solver who can troubleshoot across systems, work with vendors when needed, document what they learn, and help keep teaching and learning running.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and support core district systems, including firewalls, switching, wireless, virtualization, identity services, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Jamf, Intune, Rapid Identity, VoIP, backup, printing, UPS, and other operational technology services.
• Provide Tier II/III support for escalated issues from building PC/LAN technicians, the help desk, and other Technology Department staff.
• Support and administer directory and identity services, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra/Azure, Rapid Identity, Google Workspace, SSO, MFA, conditional access, group membership, account provisioning, directory synchronization, and user lifecycle processes.
• Troubleshoot account, authentication, SSO, password, MFA, group membership, and access-related issues that affect students, staff, applications, devices, or district systems.
• Manage and support the district's 1:1 student device program, including iPads, Chromebooks, and related management systems for deploying, securing, updating, and supporting learning devices.
• Support Apple, ChromeOS, and Windows device management using tools such as Jamf, Google Admin Console, Microsoft Intune, and related platforms.
• Support device inventory, enrollment, configuration profiles, app deployment, policy settings, content restrictions, OS updates, lifecycle planning, and large-scale device rollouts.
• Support backup, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, patching, vulnerability response, content filtering, endpoint protection, and other safeguards that protect district systems and data.
• Open, manage, and follow through on vendor support cases when issues require escalation; communicate status clearly and share lessons learned with the team.
• Work with vendor partners on larger implementations, upgrades, advanced troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer.
• Maintain clear documentation, including procedures, configurations, diagrams, vendor contacts, alerts, runbooks, and recovery steps so others can provide backup coverage.
• Participate in cross-training and shared coverage so the team can support critical systems during vacations, illness, medical leave, vacancies, or emergencies.
• Assist with project planning, testing, implementation, online testing readiness, upgrades, and communication for assigned technology projects.
• Stay current with K-12 technology, cybersecurity, identity management, and infrastructure best practices.
• Support the onboarding and technical development of technology staff and contribute to a strong team service culture.
• Maintain a customer-service focus when working with students, staff, school leaders, district leaders, vendors, and Technology Department team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
 

Required:

• Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, Systems Administration, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Relevant experience and certifications may substitute for the degree requirement.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems support, network support, endpoint management, identity administration, cybersecurity operations, or related technology support.
• Working knowledge of directory services and identity platforms such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra/Azure, Google Workspace, Rapid Identity, or similar enterprise systems.
• Understanding of account provisioning, group membership, authentication, SSO, MFA, password management, access control, and user lifecycle support.
• Experience supporting or managing device fleets such as iPads, Chromebooks, Windows devices, or Apple devices in an enterprise, school district, or similar managed environment.
• Working knowledge of LAN/WAN, routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewall configuration, wireless infrastructure, content filtering, virtualization, backup, file services, print services, and endpoint management.
• Strong skills in troubleshooting, documentation, communication, organization, customer service, and problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, communicate clearly, and collaborate with technical staff, end users, vendors, and district leaders.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for district-wide travel.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varied physical environments.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in a related technology field.
• Certifications such as CompTIA, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Jamf, Fortinet, Aruba, Extreme, VMware, or vendor equivalents.
• Deeper experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra/Azure, group policy, identity synchronization, SSO, MFA, conditional access, automated account lifecycle processes, or related identity and access management systems.
• Experience with K-12 systems such as Jamf, Google Admin Console, Microsoft Intune, Aruba Central, ClearPass, Fortinet, Extreme Fabric, Veeam, RingCentral, Rapid Identity, or similar platforms.
• Experience with 1:1 student device programs, online testing readiness, student data privacy, vendor coordination, and shared team documentation.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, cross-training, and professional growth.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in offices, schools, data centers, network closets, and classroom settings. Occasional travel between district sites is required. Some work may involve lifting equipment, working around cabling or network equipment, and responding to urgent operational needs.

After-hours or weekend work may occasionally be needed for emergency maintenance, upgrades, critical repairs, or service restoration. The district works to keep this to a minimum, but when critical systems are down, this position is expected to help restore service promptly to reduce disruption to teaching, learning, and district operations. Flexible scheduling or adjusted time may be provided in coordination with the supervisor and consistent with district practices.
