Job description

Are you looking for an exciting and fast-paced paid internship opportunity to learn in an environment with staff who are actively working on critical legislation to improve California, address issues in our communities, and meet the needs of all Californians? BASIC FUNCTIONS:
In a learner capacity and under the direct supervision of the District Coordinator, the Intern will support day-to-day office operations and assist with planning events such as town hall meetings, community coffees, and farmers' market tabling. Applicants must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced professional setting.
DUTIES:
In a learner capacity and under direct supervision, duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with general office and administrative support.
  • Assisting with planning, organizing and staffing virtual and in-person constituent-facing events.
  • Assisting with the creation of marketing materials including graphics and letters.
  • Assisting with photo and video capture and content collection at events
  • Supporting constituent services and casework as needed.
  • Drives to events, townhalls, and other field work to learn from and shadow District Representatives and other staff while staffing the member at events and other community engagements.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Degree required.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
The ideal candidate has excellent written and verbal skills and is a detail-oriented planner who works well in a team office environment. This person must also be able to communicate professionally with members of the general public.
Interest in public policy and the Legislature is a plus. Must be comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Canva, and various web browsers.
Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times. NOTE: Information from your driving record will be shared with the hiring supervisor which may impact your hiring status.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Menlo Park, CA and requires in person attendance with a start date in mid to end of September 2026.
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, scheduling for interns may need to be more flexible depending on the office needs and my include evenings and weekends.
Interns hired to work fulltime or 35 hours per week, must conclude their internship in three months or less.
All paid internships must conclude within six months, unless the intern is working less than half-time (17 hours per week).
Interns who are under the age of 18 are only authorized to work remotely.
Salary is $21 per hour.
No benefits provided with this classification.
