Job description

Position Title: Pipe Welder

Job Summary: We are seeking experienced Pipe Welders to join our team supporting shipyard, marine, and industrial projects throughout the Gulf Coast region. The Pipe Welder is responsible for welding carbon steel, stainless steel, copper nickel, and other pipe systems in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, and customer requirements. Candidates must be capable of producing high-quality welds while working safely in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform pipe welding using SMAW (Stick), GTAW (TIG), FCAW, and other approved welding processes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, weld procedures, and specifications.
  • Fit, align, and weld piping systems according to project requirements.
  • Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, copper nickel, and other alloys commonly used in marine and industrial applications.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and passes visual, X-ray, ultrasonic, and other required inspections.
  • Operate welding and cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, pipe fitters, inspectors, and other trades to ensure project completion.
  • Perform repairs and rework as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of pipe welding experience in a shipyard, refinery, industrial, or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to pass required welding tests and certifications.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Knowledge of welding codes and standards applicable to shipbuilding and industrial construction.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tight spaces.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including welding hood, respirator, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots.
  • Capable of working overtime, weekends, and shift work as required.

Preferred Experience

  • Shipyard experience (Ingalls, Austal, Bollinger, Eastern Shipbuilding, etc.).
  • Marine construction and repair experience.
  • ABS, NAVSEA, ASME, or AWS welding qualifications.
  • Experience with new construction and repair projects.

Work Environment

Work is performed in shipyards, fabrication shops, industrial facilities, and marine environments throughout the Gulf Coast. Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions, confined spaces, elevated work areas, noise, dust, and industrial hazards.
