Position SummaryThe Weekend Refuse Technician and Housekeeper performs all duties and tasks necessary to maintain Taylor University grounds free of trash and debris including collection and disposal of trash, collection and processing of recyclables, and operation of Taylor University Recycling Center, as well as weekend housekeeping services to the Boren Campus Center. This is a part time position with hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is primarily responsible to:
- Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
- Drive a truck on a pre-established route multiple times per day.
- Pick up trash, plastic bags, and assorted sizes of cardboard.
- Sort and empty recycling bins and containers.
- Maintain cleanliness of recycling area.
- Maintain cleanliness of the Boren Campus Center
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Operate baling equipment to include control panel, baling wire replacement, cleaning, clearing jams, and maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Skills and Competencies- Knowledge of practical application of basic hydraulics and mechanics.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
- Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Supplemental Information- Extensive physical activity required; includes strenuous physical work: heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 75 pounds.
- Requires a full range of physical motion to operate various vehicles.
- Requires periodic exposure to and use of chemical compounds for application on trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, and grasses, which may be hazardous and cause injury if specific instructions regarding mixture, application, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
- Employees considered as essential employees and must report to work as scheduled or called in when University offices are closed due to severe weather.

- Work is primarily performed outdoors, year-round; involves considerable exposure to unusual elements including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant orders and/or loud noises.
