Job description

Join our team as a Barn Attendant at Winton Woods Farm & Equestrian Center!

At Great Parks, our team members work together to preserve and protect natural resources and to provide outdoor recreation and education in order to enhance the quality of life for present and future generations. This part time position works Monday - Sunday varying shifts, mornings and evenings.

A successful Barn Attendant will provide daily care to the equestrian heard and livestock at Winton Woods Farm & Equestrian Center! Ensures visitor satisfaction and attends to the needs and safety of our guests. Will maintain responsibility for feeding, watering, turning-out, grooming, tacking and performing other tasks to provide proper care of horses used in lessons, camps, trail rides, badge programs & horse shows. Will also be responsible for daily care of all other program livestock at the farm. Observes horses and livestock on a regular basis to identify possible health problems and initiate corrective action through management.

  • Keeps barns, crossties and arenas clean, organized and tidy by removing manure, spreading wood shavings, cleaning feed tubs, water buckets, & and water troughs, and performing other cleaning tasks.
  • Ensures equestrian and program animal equipment is maintained in proper condition.
  • Answers questions and provides information to assist visitors in enjoying riding facilities in a safe manner. Assists guest with horse riding procedures. Ensures public safety and proper treatment of horses.
  • Notifies proper authority of supply inventory shortages.
  • Works weekends and holidays.

USUAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee frequently lifts or exerts force on items weighing up to 40-60 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify the applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: At least 16 years old, with some prior experience working with horses.

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within 3 days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
