Job description

Field Organizer

Locations: San Pedro, CAAbout The Outreach Team

The Outreach Team is the national engine of campaigners and organizers powering the movement to fight back. With an on-the-ground presence in communities all across the country, our world-class team runs high-impact civic engagement campaigns to build a future that's fairer, healthier, safer, and more peaceful for everyone. We are a premier national field firm that partners with organizations working to solve some of the biggest problems facing our society, from protecting human rights to fighting climate change, and helps them build the resources they need to make an impact.

Who We're Looking For

We are hiring a field organizer to play a key role in building grassroots support, engaging with voters, and driving the success of field operations on a campaign for a California State Assembly candidate. Reporting to the Organizing Director, the organizer will be responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers, coordinating community outreach, and implementing strategies to maximize voter engagement. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual passionate about civic engagement and able to thrive in a fast-paced political environment.

What You'll Do

Campus and Community Organizer

Recruit and Train Volunteer Leaders

  • Identify and recruit new volunteers via calls and text, community outreach, digital outreach, and more for supporter list building
  • Maintain detailed supporter and volunteer tracking to ensure strong follow-up and retention
  • Recruit supporters and volunteers into meaningful campaign action, such as door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and more.
  • Train volunteers through grassroots organizing skill sessions
  • Track and report voter engagement metrics to inform strategic adjustments

Community Engagement and Events

  • Build relationships with local organizations, community leaders, and advocacy groups to expand the campaign’s reach.
  • Represent the campaign in community spaces and uplift partner organizations
  • Plan and execute campaign activities that build awareness and engagement, such as town halls, rallies, and meet-and-greets with the candidate
  • Drive turnout to campaign events and actions

Digital Outreach and Data Management

  • Activate social media supporters to amplify campaign messages
  • Use peer-to-peer texting tools and relational organizing platforms
  • Send timely email campaigns to recruit participants and promote events
  • Track all outreach efforts and report progress through daily numbers and weekly reports
 What We're Looking For

Must-Haves:

A deep commitment to equity and justice is non-negotiable. You must have strong organizational and multitasking skills in fast-paced environments, along with clear and effective communication abilities, both written and spoken. Comfort using campaign tools like VAN, Hustle, Impactiv, and Mailchimp is important. For leadership roles, you should have demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to motivate, grow, and manage a team. All positions require availability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and field leadership roles demand the ability to work long hours while maintaining extreme attention to detail and instilling that quality in others. You should be a self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and a strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement.

Nice-to-Haves:

Prior experience on issue or electoral campaigns is valuable. Background in event planning, community organizing, or managing paid employees will help you succeed in these roles. Experience working with volunteers, especially in student or grassroots contexts, is beneficial. Familiarity with Google Suite, data tracking tools and PDI knowledge is a plus. Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities, facilitation experience, and local knowledge of California communities will strengthen your candidacy.

Compensation and Benefits

The full-time salary range is $1,352 - $1,460, commensurate with experience.
We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and hands-on training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement and bonuses.

At The Outreach Team, we prioritize equity and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage Black, indigenous, people of color, women, people with previous felony convictions, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
