Band Member Recruitment and Retention Specialist

As Grand Casino's Band Member Recruitment and Retention Specialist, you will serve as a strategic connector, advocate, and developer of Mille Lacs Band Members by recruiting them into meaningful roles and supporting their growth and success across Grand Casinos. You will help increase Band Member employment and foster leadership development through a thoughtful, hands-on approach to retention and advancement.
Your work will enrich the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe by empowering its members, promoting self-sufficiency, and supporting long-term careers. The ideal candidate is caring, motivated, highly organized, and passionate about community engagement, personal development, and cultural alignment.
What You'll Do
Engage, Recruit, and Represent
  • Drive and support recruitment strategies to increase Band Member employment across Grand Casinos.
  • Build talent pipelines by actively participating in hiring events, job fairs, and community outreach efforts.
  • Serve as a visible and trusted liaison between Talent, Department Leaders, and the Band community.
  • Connect Band Members with appropriate community resources that support employment and personal development.

Coach, Retain, and Develop
  • Conduct onboarding interviews and provide ongoing coaching to Band Members in career success, job advancement, resume building, and interview preparation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for work-related concerns, offering culturally sensitive and proactive support.
  • Assist Band Members in navigating Talent programs, resources, and Associate relations processes.
  • Support individual development through personalized Career Development Plans and continuous follow-up.

Monitor, Report, and Drive Results
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date working files on Band Members, documenting services provided and employment goals.
  • Provide timely, actionable reports to General Managers, Assistant General Managers, and Talent Leadership.
  • Ensure seamless documentation and data accuracy within internal HR systems.
  • Deliver regular employment and progress reports to the Band Member Services Manager.
  • Collaborate with department leaders and Talent Strategic Partners to monitor development, identify roadblocks, and drive long-term retention success.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in recruitment and/or retention. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated success in coaching, relationship-building, and talent support
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Must be able to secure a license from the Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA)
  • Responsible for following all relevant Detailed Gaming Regulations (DGRs)
  • Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to travel locally for events and community engagement
  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends for outreach or development initiatives
  • Comfortable working in both office and guest-facing environments
  • Regular standing, walking, and light lifting during community activities and events
