Job description

Job Summary

The Freight Processor will inventory and load all freight in its appropriate area (container, railcar, trailer, or vessel staging). They must be detail oriented and must ensure that proper product identification, counts, weights, tallies, and quality control of all freight is being completed per instructions from the Operations Manager

Essential Job Function/Duties

  • Responsible for receiving and processing freight for northbound voyages
  • Responsible for checking the inventory and loading all freight in its appropriate area (container, railcar, trailer, or vessel staging
  • Ensures proper product identification, counts, weights, and tallies
  • Quality control inspection of all products
  • Must be able to ensure that all freight is staged/loaded to maximize cube and minimize damage to product
  • Have the ability to halt operations if there are inventory or load problems and make appropriate personnel aware
  • Ensure outbound container, railcars, that pictures are taken of the finished load and the seal attachment is verified
  • Must comply with Coastal Transportation's Safety program
  • Assist other departments as directed by Operations Manager

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a warehouse and outdoors in all weather conditions. Employee may also be exposed to loud noises, dangerous machinery and equipment and situations that require the utmost attention to safety.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 years relevant experience
  • Forklift experience or the willingness to learn

Key Attributes:

  • Ability to sort, stack, wrap and band freight (up to 65lbs regularly and 90lbs occasionally) for shipments
  • Ability to identify or categorize freight based on supplied information and visual cues
  • A desire to learn and perform many different facets of a complex operation
  • Flexibility in hours worked (including overtime) as needed and this may include weekends
  • Ability to work as an individual and as a team member
  • Attention to detail
  • Great interpersonal communication skills with all employees and management

Computer Skills:

  • Experience with handheld scanners or the willingness to learn
