About Us: The overall mission of the OSU Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management is to increase public awareness and understanding, through teaching, research and extension, of the ecology, management and sustainable use of natural resources that are important for maintaining ecosystem health, species diversity, agriculture and forest production, hunting and fishing, and the enjoyment of experiencing nature. Coordinate and lead OK-FIRE training workshops and support activities for OK-FIRE users, both in-person and virtually. Provide participants with hands-on training and practical exercises to enhance their skills and knowledge in fire and emergency management. Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop Extension programs with workshop content and materials covering a wide range of fire-related topics including fire weather, smoke management, prescribed burning, brush and cedar control, risk assessment, operational procedures and multi-agency cooperation. Act as a liaison between OK-FIRE users and the Oklahoma Mesonet, facilitating communication and feedback exchange to improve program effectiveness and relevance. Solicit input from multi-agency and community stakeholders to identify emerging needs and opportunities for enhancement of OK-FIRE services and resources. Lead or collaborate in applied research to improve the effectiveness of OK-FIRE or other fire preparedness and management tools. Assist OSU Fire Service Training with development and delivery of wildland fire courses. Promote OK-FIRE courses and advanced weather courses through Fire Service Training. Assist with communication between OSU, other wildland fire agencies and prescribed burn organizations in OK and the region. Serve as a key point of contact and support for county educators and other Extension staff for fire management topics. 

Primary work location is expected to be Stillwater or Norman, OK, but other locations may be considered that maximize ability to serve Oklahoma stakeholders.  Final decision will be negotiated with chosen candidate.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's in Meteorology, ecology, fire and emergency management, or other relevant disciplines with demonstrated experience in developing and delivering extension programming related to wildland fire management.
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Valid Driver's License. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.
