Cass County is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to work in the Cass County Jail. Hours for this position include days, evenings, and weekends.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patientsWork closely with correctional staff to provide continuity of care for patientsContact practitioner to obtain ordersAdminister prescribed medications, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitionerProvide emergency first aid care, when appropriateCheck and record vital signs, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriateTriage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick callReport reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients emotional or physical conditionProvide patient education on topics such as correctional facilities policies and discharge planningRecord care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate formsCollaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitionerMaintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as requiredMaintain and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reaction/overdoseMaintain and demonstrate working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutritionMaintain and demonstrate working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences, particularly as applied to the correctional settingRecommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisorNotify supervisor of medical or security incidentsPresent/participate in in-service education sessionsPerform duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standardsMaintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agenciesOversee and delegate duties as expected and allowed under the RN scope of practiceMay be asked to train new hires and coworkersAny and all other duties as assignedREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Associate's degree in registered nursing and one or more years of previous nursing experienceCorrectional nursing experience preferredActive North Dakota RN license, in good standingBasic Life Support (BLS) certificationExcellent documentation skillsKnowledge of the RN scope of practiceCass County Government is an Equal Opportunity and At Will Employer.QualificationsEducationRequiredAssociates or better in Nursing.ExperienceRequired1 year:One or more years of previous nursing experience
