Job description

PRODUCTION MECHANIC
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Production Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting production equipment in a fish processing and manufacturing facility. This includes performing preventative maintenance to ensure minimal downtime and supporting production operations to meet safety, quality, and efficiency goals.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on processing and packaging machinery (e.g., conveyors, slicers, vacuum packers, scales, pumps, chillers).
  • Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain sanitation standards by supporting clean-in-place (CIP) and disassembly/reassembly processes.
  • Assist with equipment installation, relocation, or upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and company safety policies.
  • Collaborate with production staff to identify potential equipment issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Plant Manager.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment, preferably seafood or protein-related.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Able to work in cold, wet, and fast-paced environments.
  • Basic computer skills for work orders and inventory systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Frequent exposure to cold and wet environments (refrigerated rooms).
  • Physically demanding standing, bending, lifting to 50 lbs, and climbing ladders.
  • Required to work weekend, evening, or holiday shifts depending on production needs.
