Job DescriptionPosition Summary:

The Video Editor will work collaboratively with CSU Learning Design Team to build exceptional online educational experiences for students in both credit and non-credit programs. This role requires an in-depth understanding of producing and editing informational and educational video, with responsibility for editing high-quality content for academic and non-credit courses that ensures clarity, engagement, and alignment with instructional goals. The position will work closely with instructional designers, subject matter experts, and multimedia producers to bring educational concepts to life through compelling visual storytelling that makes learning accessible and impactful.

As a creative partner within the learning development process, the Video Editor contributes to CSU's mission by transforming educational content into engaging visual experiences. This collaborative role involves working across teams to ensure video content meets both learner needs and institutional priorities, while maintaining the technical excellence and pedagogical effectiveness that define quality online education. The Video Editor plays an essential part in CSU's commitment to delivering meaningful, digitally connected learning experiences that serve student populations across the state.

Essential Job Duties:Video Editing and Management of Resources
  • Assist in the editing queue and workflow of instructional video content to ensure timely delivery and quality standards.

  • Edit informational/educational video content using advanced post-production techniques, including multi-camera editing, color correction, audio synchronization, noise reduction, and music/sound effect integration.

  • Utilize industry-standard editing software and post-production tools to create polished, educational videos that meet technical specifications and branding standards.

  • Complete course video content with 100% accuracy and minimal technical re-edits, optimizing formats for effective integration into web-based instructional materials and online course delivery systems.

  • Ensure video accessibility compliance through accurate closed-captioning, audio descriptions, and other design practices that meet ADA and institutional standards.

  • Organize and maintain digital content, media libraries, and project files while ensuring copyright compliance and proper attribution of licensed materials and faculty-provided content; assist in tracking data to assess efficiency and video engagement.

Mentorship and Development
  • Train and mentor student editors on post-production techniques, editing software, and educational video best practices.

  • Assist in building sustainable video editing workflows and documentation for consistent quality and efficiency across projects.

  • Apply existing style guides, templates, and technical standards that ensure brand consistency, quality assurance, and accessibility compliance across all video content.

  • Contribute to process documentation creation and updates that enable team members to maintain consistency and independently execute routine editing tasks and troubleshoot common technical issues.

Supervision:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility, but may provide mentorship to visual design professionals, student interns or workers, and contracted contributors.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the Learning Innovation Team will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, television production, public relations, marketing, communications, or closely related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital media production, including planning, shooting, and editing informational/educational film.

Demonstrate proficient experience in:

  • Video editing, preferably in an educational or e-learning context.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and other relevant editing software.

  • Color grading log footage using Premiere Pro and third-party plug-ins

  • Visual storytelling, pacing, and instructional design principles.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, prioritize, work independently, and meet strict deadlines.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Videography, Film, Journalism and Technical Communication, Digital Media, or related field.

  • Strong experience creating motion graphics in After Effects and in other animation software.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, captioning best practices).

  • Familiarity with copyright compliance and fair use.

  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas).

  • Demonstrated experience successfully working with university faculty and staff in education, instructional designers, or media production teams.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an individual contributor and member of multiple internal and external teams and organizations.

  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
