What is a Weekend Farm job?

A Weekend Farm job typically involves assisting with farm tasks on weekends, such as feeding animals, tending crops, cleaning barns, and performing general maintenance. It is often a part-time position suited for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and have an interest in agriculture. Some roles may also include helping with farm markets, customer interactions, or specialized tasks depending on the type of farm.

What are the typical responsibilities and work schedule for someone in a Weekend Farm role?

Weekend Farm roles usually involve tasks such as feeding and checking on animals, watering crops or plants, cleaning stalls or barns, operating farm equipment, and performing basic repairs or maintenance. Shifts are typically concentrated on Saturdays and Sundays, with occasional holiday coverage, and working hours may vary based on the season and farm needs. While many duties are performed independently, you may sometimes collaborate with other part-time staff or farm owners to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently. This role is well-suited for individuals seeking supplemental income, practical experience in agriculture, or those who enjoy working outdoors and with animals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Weekend Farm position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Weekend Farm position, you need hands-on experience in basic agricultural tasks such as planting, animal care, equipment operation, and general farm maintenance. Basic familiarity with farm tools, small machinery, and possibly certifications in pesticide application or livestock handling are often assets. Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team are valuable soft skills. These capabilities ensure the farm functions smoothly during weekends, maintaining productivity and animal welfare when full-time staff are off duty.

Job description

Part-Time Farm Assistant
Department: Regenerative California
Employment Type: Fixed Term - Part Time
Location: Regenerative California - Monterey County, CA
Reporting To: CEO
Compensation: $25.00 / hour
Description
About the Organization:
Regenerative California is a nonprofit organization partnering with communities to create regional regenerative economies. Through convening, capital and policy alignment, and co-creating blueprints for systems change, Regenerative California is working toward a California where strong communities, restored ecosystems, and lasting prosperity grow together.
At the heart of this work is Regenerate 68! Farm - a 68-acre working demonstration site located just off Highway 68 in Monterey County on the historic Ferrini Ranch. Launched in 2025, the farm is a living classroom for regenerative organic agriculture training and outcomes-based farming practices, led by innovators in soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience. By growing nutrient-rich crops using regenerative methods that restore soil, sequester carbon, increase biodiversity, and conserve water, the farm embodies the future of food that Regenerative California is working to build.
Position Summary:Regenerative California is seeking a passionate and driven Farm Assistant to join the team at Regenerate 68! Farm, starting immediately through November 15, 2026. This is a part-time role (20-30 hours/week) working side-by-side with Regenerative California's Farm Manager to learn, build, and manage a regenerative organic farm from the ground up.
No prior farming experience is required - just the drive to make a meaningful difference by building living soil and growing food that nourishes communities. This is a rare opportunity to get paid to learn the craft of next-generation farming while contributing to a mission with real regional and statewide impact.
Primary Responsibilities
The Farm Assistant will be involved in all aspects of farm operations, including:
  • Design and implementation of farm systems and infrastructure
  • Field and nursery work
  • Seeding and transplanting
  • Irrigation management and pest management
  • Harvest, wash, and pack operations
  • Operation of BCS tractor and various farm tools
  • Distribution support and community relationship-building

The Ideal Candidate
You are someone who believes in the power of soil - and you're ready to get your hands in it. You don't need years of farming experience; what you bring is curiosity, grit, and a genuine desire to be part of something bigger than yourself.
You are bilingual and able to communicate effectively with a diverse team and community. You are a solutions-oriented self-starter who thrives in a dynamic outdoor environment and doesn't shy away from physical work or changing weather conditions. You show up ready to learn, contribute ideas, and grow into a leadership role on the farm.
You care about regenerative practices not just as a job, but as a way of engaging with the land and the people who depend on it. You're the kind of person who builds trust naturally - with your team, with chefs, with neighbors, and with the soil itself.
Specific Experience Requested:
We recognize that each applicant will bring unique skills, knowledge, and lived experiences to this role. We welcome diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and will be looking for candidates who possess many, but not necessarily all, of the following:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish strongly preferred)
  • Able to perform manual labor outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Self-motivated with a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Eagerness to learn farm operations, equipment, and regenerative practices
  • Experience or interest in agriculture, environmental work, or community food systems is a plus!

Workplace, Compensation & Application
Workplace & Schedule: This is an on-site position at Regenerate 68! Farm, located off Highway 68 in Monterey County, CA. Hours range from 20-30 hours per week, depending on farm needs, and may include early mornings and weekends during peak seasons.
Term: Immediate start through November 15, 2026, with potential for transition to full time employment (dependent on future organizational needs and funding).
Compensation: $25/hour
How to Apply: To apply, please visit our Applicant Portal. Applications will be accepted until position is filled. Priority will be given to applications received on or before Sunday, June 21. Please include a cover letter in your application materials describing your relevant experience and qualifications. We respectfully request no follow-up calls or emails.
