Position Summary

The Park Maintenance III is responsible for providing semi-skilled heavy manual labour involving the use of hand and/or common labouring tools and operating mid-sized and specialized motorized operating equipment.

This position provides heavy manual labour involving the use of hand and/or common labouring tools, operation of small motorized operating equipment, and operation of motorized vehicles up a maximum of a 1 ton truck. This position requires employees to work shift work; day, evening, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

This role requires semi-skilled heavy manual labour work, which includes, but is not limited to:

  • Adhering to all safety and environmental protection programs, policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment;
  • Operating motorized equipment including, dump truck, scissor lift, forklift, skid steer, and mid-size commercial/farm tractors (up to 70HP).
  • Completing daily logs as directed, which may include vehicle inspections, vehicle sign outs, fuel logs and vehicle maintenance action sheets;
  • Performing heavy manual labour assignments ranging from: assisting with the setup for high profile events, digging trenches, moving furniture, setting up construction fences, hauling boxes, pulling garbage, snow removal, trades support, and other duties as assigned;
  • Maintaining green spaces and hardscapes across the park, including stone paver and retaining wall install/repair, turf maintenance, irrigation install/maintenance, pruning and maintaining overall tree/shrub health;

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license (non-GDL), with a minimum of one (1) year driving experience preferred
  • Education in horticulture, landscaping, arboriculture, or a similar field is preferred (or relevant experience in same)
  • Forklift operating experience and/or relative equipment experience is preferred
  • Aptitude to perform heavy lifting and manual labour
  • Exceptional customer service, communication and time management skills
  • WHMIS Certification preferred
  • Must have CSA approved steel toe work boots
  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance or facility maintenance appreciated

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting upwards of 50 lbs with occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Pushing, pulling, crouching, bending, and reaching frequently.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, gas, odors’, animal dander, bedding waste and variability of seasonal climate.  
  • Physical and visual acuity is required.
