Job description

Position Summary: The Mechanic will perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of agricultural and feedlot equipment. This position plays a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring the reliability and safety of machinery used in feeding, hauling, and day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines used in feed trucks, tractors, loaders, skid steers, and other heavy farm equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, cooling, and fuel systems across various diesel-powered and gas-powered machinery.
  • Conduct engine overhauls, transmission service, and brake repairs as needed.
  • Service and maintain small engines and utility vehicles such as 4-wheelers, generators, and pumps.
  • Use diagnostic software and tools to assess performance issues and ensure accurate repairs.
  • Weld and fabricate components using MIG, TIG, stick, or gas welding methods for equipment repairs and custom modifications.
  • Maintain complete and accurate service records for all equipment.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and work area.
  • Collaborate with feedlot, trucking, and farm teams to prioritize repairs and identify potential mechanical failures before they cause operational disruptions.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Operate machinery post-repair to verify performance and functionality.


Requirements


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, agricultural mechanic, or similar role in a feedlot, farm, or commercial setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and general mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and repair manuals.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, service manuals, and schematics.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL and/or ASE Diesel Technician Certification is a plus.

Dress and Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Must wear appropriate clothing for all operations to protect against injury—safety glasses; no loose clothing; gloves; ear protection; etc.
