Job Title: Community Engagement & Events Coordinator

FLSA Status: Full Time - exempt
Reports to: Center Director

Schedule: 40 hours exempt, M-F 8:00am-4:30pm
Supervises: N/A

Rate of Pay: $63,560 - $66,560 annually

Closing Date: 9/13/2026

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • Sick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire)

Position Summary

The Community Engagement & Events Coordinator is responsible for cultivating meaningful relationships that connect the Greater Denver community to the mission of The Salvation Army. This position provides leadership in volunteer recruitment, engagement, appreciation, community partnerships, donor stewardship support, special events, seasonal campaigns, and public outreach while ensuring volunteers have meaningful opportunities to serve throughout Denver Red Shield ministries. Working collaboratively with the Corps Officers, Center Director, Business Office & Reception Coordinator, Divisional Development Department, and community partners, this position helps strengthen the visibility, sustainability, and ministry impact of Denver Red Shield. Because this role regularly requires evening meetings, weekend events, seasonal campaigns, civic engagement, and community representation, it is classified as an exempt salaried position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Corps leadership and collaborate with DHQ staff in the development and growth of the Red Shield Advisory Council, including engagement with Council members and others to strengthen community support, advance strategic priorities, and achieve certification for the Council under The Salvation Army’s National Standards of Excellence (NSOE). Understand and utilize OnBoard board management software to efficiently and effectively organize Advisory Council information, resources, and communications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with churches, schools, businesses, civic organizations, elected officials, neighborhood associations, and community partners throughout the Greater Denver Metro Area.
  • Represent Denver Red Shield at community meetings, networking events, civic organizations, chambers of commerce, and service clubs alongside the Corps Officers and Center Director.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that increase awareness of Denver Red Shield ministries and create opportunities for volunteerism, sponsorships, and collaborative programming.
  • Coordinate community presentations, facility tours, outreach initiatives, and public engagement opportunities.
  • Lead year-round volunteer recruitment, engagement, appreciation, and retention efforts for Denver Red Shield.
  • Work collaboratively with the Business Office & Reception Coordinator to coordinate volunteer onboarding, ensuring all required documentation, background checks, orientation, and onboarding processes are completed.
  • Recruit volunteers for recreation programs, Christian education, worship ministries, seasonal outreach, special events, and Corps ministries.
  • Recruit and coordinate Red Kettle bell ringers and volunteers for Angel Tree Toy & Joy, Christmas assistance, and other seasonal initiatives.
  • Implement, maintain, and manage Golden, The Salvation Army's volunteer management system.
  • Ensure volunteer opportunities are created, maintained, and promoted through Golden and other approved volunteer recruitment platforms.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, engagement metrics, and participation reports.
  • Serve as project manager for major community and seasonal events.
  • Coordinate the annual Red Kettle Kick-Off Campaign.
  • Coordinate Toy & Joy and other Christmas initiatives in collaboration with divisional departments and community partners.
  • Plan and execute community engagement events throughout the Greater Denver Metro Area.
  • Coordinate event logistics, volunteers, vendors, facility needs, schedules, and event evaluations.
  • Assist departments with volunteer support for ministry programming and special events.
  • Support Corps Officers in cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate donor and volunteer appreciation initiatives throughout the year.
  • Develop and maintain an annual appreciation calendar that intentionally recognizes volunteers and donors through meaningful stewardship, thank-you events, handwritten notes, recognition activities, and appreciation campaigns.
  • Assist with donor visits, tours, recognition events, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities, community events, and Denver Red Shield ministries.
  • Coordinate promotional materials, newsletters, social media content, and event communications consistent with Salvation Army branding standards.
  • Capture ministry stories, photographs, testimonials, and impact reports that highlight God's work through Denver Red Shield.
  • Develop, administer, and responsibly steward the Community Engagement & Events budget.
  • Maintain records for volunteers, community partnerships, sponsorships, and event outcomes.
  • Prepare reports measuring volunteer engagement, community partnerships, event participation, and outreach effectiveness.
  • Assist with grant reporting and community impact documentation as requested.
  • Foster a welcoming environment where volunteers are viewed as ministry partners and disciple-makers.
  • Support the overall mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through authentic relationships and Christ-centered service.

Education/Experience, Skills, Qualities, Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Nonprofit Leadership, Ministry, or a related field.
  • Equivalent education and relevant nonprofit or ministry experience may be considered.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in volunteer management, community engagement, event planning, nonprofit development, or related ministry preferred.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers and managing community events preferred.

Requirements:

  • Driving
    • The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver’s license
    • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
    • Ability to travel throughout the Greater Denver Metro Area for meetings, partnerships, outreach, and events.
  • Background Check
    • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
