Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with travel experience strongly preferred for an Observation Unit role requiring a Michigan RN license and BLS certification.

Details
  • Work in a 10-bed Observation Unit functioning as ER overflow within a Med/Surg department
  • Also float to other Med/Surg units with a variety of medical patients
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:4-5, up to 1:7 when working in an RN/LPN team model
  • Focus on continuous reassessment of patient readiness for discharge due to rapid admission/discharge flow
  • Work alongside a mixed care team including RNs, LPNs, and Techs
  • Float to other units approximately once per week based on need
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Epic charting system experience preferred
Requirements
  • Active Michigan RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Travel experience required; not recommended for first-time travelers unless recent Observation, Admission, or Short Stay Unit experience
  • ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Proof of flu vaccination required for consideration, or vaccination exemption submitted within 48 hours of signing
  • Supervisor-level references required
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care with a strong focus on assessing discharge readiness in a fast-paced observation setting
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a local rate differential
  • Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
  • No holiday time off requests accepted; specific dates may be discussed with the manager for possible accommodation
  • RTO limited to no more than 10 days
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed or approved at this time
  • Previous Bronson internal travelers may return after 6 months and previous permanent staff after 1 year
  • Skills in wound care, tracheostomy management, IV therapy, and various specialty areas such as GI, renal, and neuro care are valued
