How does the schedule and workload of a Weekend Engineer typically differ from standard weekday engineering roles?

Weekend Engineers usually work during non-traditional hours, often covering shifts on Saturdays and Sundays to provide critical support or maintenance when regular staff are off. This role often involves troubleshooting urgent issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring system uptime with minimal supervision. Collaboration is still key; Weekend Engineers regularly communicate with weekday teams to ensure seamless project handoffs and accurate reporting. Flexibility, self-motivation, and the ability to quickly adapt to unexpected challenges are important for success in this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering fundamentals, troubleshooting, and relevant technical qualifications such as a degree or certification in your engineering discipline. Familiarity with industry-specific tools, maintenance management systems, and diagnostic equipment is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently under time constraints are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure efficient operations, rapid response to issues, and minimal downtime during critical weekend shifts.

What are Weekend Engineers?

Weekend Engineers are professionals who typically work engineering shifts during weekends, rather than standard weekday hours. They may be responsible for maintaining, repairing, or monitoring systems, equipment, or facilities to ensure continuous operation during off-peak times. Weekend Engineers are often employed in industries that require 24/7 coverage, such as manufacturing, IT, utilities, or facilities management. Their role is crucial for addressing urgent issues, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting operations when regular staff are not available.

Do project engineers work weekends?

Project engineers often work weekends depending on project deadlines, site requirements, and company policies. They may need to be available outside regular hours to coordinate with teams, oversee progress, or address urgent issues, especially in construction, manufacturing, or engineering projects.

What Does a Weekend Engineer Do?

A weekend engineer works part-time (usually on weekends and evening hours) to service equipment for various companies that they use in their operations. In addition to weekend shifts, some positions also require you to have on-call hours available on a rotating schedule with other engineers. Your responsibilities vary depending on the job and the company for which you work. For an IT company, you may service computer equipment, internet lines, and other technical equipment. In a factory position, you may work on production line equipment, such as conducting routine inspections and maintenance on equipment, ordering parts for replacement, and repairing broken or worn-down equipment.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering with extensive experience and advanced skills can earn $500,000 or more annually. High compensation often involves leadership roles, bonuses, stock options, or working in high-demand industries requiring advanced certifications and expertise.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Weekend Engineer role typically does not pay $10,000 a month without specialized skills or experience. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often involve entrepreneurship, sales, real estate, or skilled trades, but they usually require relevant expertise, certifications, or a strong network rather than a formal degree. Most roles paying this much are performance-based or involve business ownership.

Are you ready to make an Impact - with your career, with our company, in your world? If so, please apply today!
Project Engineer
Are you organized, decisive, adaptable, and good at finding solutions when a problem arises? If working from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings is your thing, and you also enjoy working directly with the customer, you might be the Project Engineer we are looking for.
At Impact, the Project Engineer works hard, leads others, gets results, and reports directly to the general manager. Therefore, the ability to accept responsibility and accountability for your actions, as well as promoting a positive image of the company and striving to solve issues raised by customers, are important character traits.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Participate on bid and proposal activities. Ensure that the requirements of the request for proposal are met in the preparation and documentation of bids and proposals.
• Review technical contract requirements (i.e. statement of work) and break-down a project into detailed smaller tasks.
• Manage and direct the daily execution of multiple projects within contract requirements to ensure that cost, schedules, and performance goals are met.
• Lead all communication with customer (verbal / written). Must be willing to take calls after hours and on weekends as required.
• Lead all meetings related to client's projects, both internal and external, from kick-off through project close.
• Review multiple quotes for technical components and initiate purchase requisitions based on bills-of-material, drawings, or configuration.
• Manage the engineering drawings, documentation packages, material flow, production schedule, and installation schedule to ensure all deliverables will be ready on time and the install team will be on-site to ensure the project is completed on time and on budget.
• Lead the resolution of installation challenges (technical and operational).
• Assess, monitor, and mitigate risk throughout the project life cycle. Effectively communicate and report material status and any installation issues.
• Estimate and communicate to customer any scope changes outside the original contract.
• Obtain management approval prior to executing scope changes without a contract modification.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• B.S. or B.A. in Engineering or a related field from an accredited university or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of Project Engineering experience or related technical experience.
• Previous experience with commonly used project management and supervision concepts, practices, and procedures.

• Proficient with MS Project, MS Office Suite and AutoCAD.
• Effective communication (verbal and written).
• Ability to build strong relationships with engineering groups, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Must be detailed oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
• Must be a self-managed individual who is a team player.
• Able to travel extensively (30%), work weekends, holidays and overtime when required.
