Job description

Job Title: Machinist

Location: Katy, TX 77494

Duration: 6 months (possible extension)

Hourly Rate: $32.00 – $34.00 on W2

Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Monday–Friday)

Overtime and weekend work as needed

Steel-toe shoes required (coveralls provided)

Standard industrial/machine shop environment

Job Summary

The All-Around Machinist is responsible for machining new tools, reworking existing molds, dies, and fixtures, and maintaining tooling used in rubber product manufacturing. This role requires strong CNC programming skills (especially with Edgecam or similar CAD software), hands-on machining expertise, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine new tools and rework existing molds, dies, fixtures, and maintenance parts
  • Perform occasional welding and torch work
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
  • Determine machining sequence, tolerances, and setup requirements
  • Set and adjust machining controls (speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut)
  • Write and create CNC programs for mills and lathes from scratch (Edgecam or similar CAD software)
  • Operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, and manual machines (mills, lathes, surface grinders)
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure quality before production release
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to resolve machining and assembly issues
  • Assist in developing specifications and creating sketches/drawings when needed
  • Transport molds and materials safely within the facility
  • Maintain tools, machines, and inventory to ensure a safe and clean work environment
  • Train and mentor other employees on machines, processes, and procedures
  • Follow all safety standards and report unsafe conditions

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience (tools, molds, dies, fixtures in rubber manufacturing or similar)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong experience with CNC programming (Edgecam or similar CAD software)
  • Proficiency in operating CNC mills and lathes
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth gauges)
  • Forklift and crane certification (or ability to maintain certification)
  • Ability to pass machinist test (85% or higher, if required)
  • Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNC or machine-specific certifications (not mandatory)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
  • Work at varying heights and on uneven surfaces
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and carry materials as required
  • Operate hand tools (up to 25 lbs)
  • Good balance, depth perception, and color vision
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs of force
  • Valid driver’s license required
